I think he was close to signing with the Bucs until Vinny convinced him he could do anything he wanted in the defense without consulting Greg Blache.

The Bucs offered a ton of loot too didn't they?

That's what I remember. That and the Giants being interested.

I was looking at Haynesworth's contract on the warpath cap sheet, and supposedly Haynesworth's contract with the Redskins can be voided if he returns 16.8 mil of the signing bonus. Do you think that it is a possibility that the skins play chicken with Haynesworth? The Redskins want him gone, he wants to leave. We could keep him on our roster for this year unless he returns some money. I know Shannahan/Allen/Snyder are super pissed about last off-season when they gave him the option to be cut/traded to a place where he wants to be or he could take 30 million in bonuses and buy into what the redskins are doing. He took the money saying he would do what the redskins asked of him but then later went back on his word, demanded a trade, and refused to play for the redskins as they asked him. I am by no means predicting this to happen, but I do think its a possibility that Shannahan/Allen/Snyder might just be pissed enough at him to keep him on the roster where he will be miserable knowing he is not wanted by anyone in hopes that Haynesworth will cave in and return some of his bonuses.

Unfortunately he is wanted by other teams, and the Redskins will need to suck it up and trade him. I'm sure the FO is pissed at him, but they just need to move on and continue rebuilding the team. No need to keep the circus around.

Do we have an idea of what the offers will be? I find it hard to believe that after Haslett's comments/player comments/the suspension/the huge contract the future team will take on that anyone is willing to give up more than a 5th rounder, more realistically a 6th. How many teams are interested in him? the only way I think we could get value is if a bidding war starts. If I'm dan snyder, I might want 17 million dollars over a late round pick (and send a message that nobody can get paid in washington without buying into the team).

That being said, I do agree with you, and I do think the circus is a bit too much, and if we can trade him, then we should trade him. I'd even release him over keeping him around to have him buy his way out. Bad for the locker room, and there is no guarantee that he would even agree to the buy out in this game of chicken (he probably already spent most of the money).

I might think about this situation differently if I were snyder. I dont care who you are, how much money you have, when someone lies to you to take 30 plus million dollars from you, your mindset/priorities might be shifted a little bit other than purely what is in the best interest of the team. I could see any owner rationalizing the positives of not letting Haynesworth steal their money and lying to them in order to convince themselves that what they are doing is the right move for the team.

An extreme situation, but mike brown refusing to get value for Carson/Ochocinco because he believes it is in the best interest of the team to set a precedent of honoring contracts (which he views as promises) is an example of this possible scenario happening elsewhere.

if he is a third best DT then im hoping for a 4 maybe round pick. That would be great. 3 4th round picks plus a pick in at least every other round. I hope McNabb gains us another pick. Then if Carolina (i think they will get the first pick again) might let us trade up ten spots or so to get Luck or we can get another quarterback that we like.

I hope you're right.
We could be semi loaded with picks next year without trading down.
