Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth

I never understood those people myself.

You can't do one without the other. He was brought in to win. That you are right on. That said, you aren't going to win unless you change the culture, and that all starts with overpaid players who refuse to get with the program. (mcnabb included)


I think if he's a distraction early on, you suspend him again for 4 games and sit him at home the rest of the year like the Bucs did with Keyshaun. THEN, you wait until the off-season and dump him.


I am not positive about this but I think that option is not available.

When the Eagles sent T.O. home for the year, the NFLPA filed some sort of grievance and the NFLPA won. I believe that the most a team can do is to suspend a player for 4 games for "being a distraction" or things like that. After that, I believe the player has to be put back on the team or released.

AH can dominate games when he feels like it and we certainly weren't the only team going after him. If I remember correctly his agents phone was ringing off the hook 1 second after midnight when he became eligible. Would he have laid down if the Giants had signed him? I really don't know. Switching to the 3-4 didn't help but the Redskins also have a reputation for overpaying a player, getting screwed, then releasing him to sign with any team he wants. Unless I'm mistaken isn't that what happened with Archuletta, Lloyd, etc.? I didn't want him here to begin with because this is exactly what I was afraid would happen. You can check my posts before we signed him. I was impressed with his talent and hoped for the best when he got here but absolutely do not want him on this team. I understand your point and agree with you Ruhskins, but if the Redskins decide to keep him and make his life miserable after giving him millions of dollars based on his agreement to go along with the changing defense, then AH breaking that same agreement that got him millions of their dollars...well I can understand their point too. We'll continue to sign FA's. Some will pan out some won't. It just seems some come here with the idea of getting paid, doing whatever they want, then getting released to sign somewhere else. No matter how good a player is, if that's their mindset based on the reputation the Redskins have among players in the league, a reputation we've earned, then why will it stop? Isn't releasing him exactly what he wants? Go to the Redskins and take the money and run. It's frustrating as hell and until the owners and players come to an agreement I probably just want to punish the SOB. No matter how it goes, hopefully we have a GM in Bruce Allen that will structure contracts in a way this kind of BS will no longer happen.

When Danny Boy and Vinny The Talking Head swooped in with their offer they were so far above anything else out there, the agent told AH to sign quickly before these guys found out what the competition was offering...

Yeah the sports reporters were saying the eagles had offered us a 4th in last years draft. This is a sad, odd situation.

I agree with Ruhskins, time to just move on and I was one who wanted him to rot out on the bench for 2 more years.

Eff it, he burned us for about 20 extra mil. Time to cut the losses and just move on . . . . after we find a way of ensuring he doesnt go to the NFC east.

I think there are two basic reasons why Haynesworth is still with the Redskins. (1) He was signed to a lengthy contract with a huge signing bonus and the team has seemed destined to get some production from him in exchange for their investment. Problem is, Albert has refused to cooperate in every way, utilizing his self centered demands to serve only as a distraction. (2) Driven by that determination to get "something" from Haynesworth they continued to put up with his antics and embarrassments hoping against hope that he would eventually come around. They were just as determined to not just let him walk and not get at least [what they feel] to be equal value in return. Convinced the guy has talent and can still play, they've been content to hold out for the best offer they could get in exchange. As a result, Haynesworth is still here because of the dilemma he presents. When teams are free to make transactions, I believe the conclusion has been reached that it's time to move on from "one" Albert Haynesworth.



Perhaps there is a third reason he is still here:

After showing up out of shape and not being cooperative with the coaches about how and when he would play, Shanahan (with Allen's blessing/concurrence) decided that they were not going to cut Haynesworth and allow him to go out on the open market and take down another 8-figure signing bonus. [Sadly, he would probably get one somewhere...] So they kept him last year hoping to trade him at the draft - - but trades of players were disallowed so that idea went up in smoke.

If my scenario is even close to correct, then Shanahan/Allen have to change their minds about giving Haynesworth the chance at another fat payday and stand by while that happens if they release him. OR they can try for a VERY late round pick in a trade. The problem here is that if my scenario is correct, that means that Shanahan/Allen have to look in the mirror and admit that Fat Albert beat them in this little stand-off. Ego bruises are lots worse than football bruises...

What I heard was that the Titans made an offer of $78-80M with something like $25M guaranteed and then the Skins offer hit the table and the agent declared the auction over.

I was not in the room when it happened - - obviously - - but that is the Cliffs Notes version of the story I heard...

Well the Giants and Bucs were also interested

The Bucs offered a ton of loot too didn't they?
