If the lockout ends and there is a pre-season, CP would get signed to be practice fodder, which is sad because he hates both preseason and practice...

He might make it somewhere as a backup i'm sure, and probably get signed to a 1 year deal at vet minimum. But i dont see it happening due to the fact it is unlikely he would bust his butt in practice just to make the squad, when he at best would be 3rd RB, or practice squad. Portis wont work hard when he is told he is not going to be the starter.

only way he gets 800+ yards this season is if his team (assuming he gets signed), loses 2 runningbacks and he goes up against other teams that has no run defense. Portis' body has betrayed him, he doesnt have that breakaway speed anymore, and he cant break tackles or shake off hits.. I say he's done.

I think he's more than camp fodder, he'll find a backup role somewhere as long as he's healthy. And he's definitely way past being practice squad eligible at this point.

But that's like saying Mark Brunell could throw for 3500 yards at this stage in his career. If he plays enough to put up those numbers, you're going to lose a lot of games because of all the negatives that come along with the attempts it takes to put up that yardage.

Me and my brother were just talking about him yesterday, and my brother asked me that with the Jets' offense, what kind of numbers would Brunell put up if he had to play, say 14 games...

I figured on probably 2,500 to 2,800 yards, probably 17 TD's to 15 INT...

He would probably look great at the beginning of the season, but get slow and struggly as the year wore on...

Here Portis speaks about how he would fair better playing for a team with an established QB....and expresses his view of the local media, suggesting them more a hindrance than an asset. Donovan McNabb was not up to snuff.

Clinton Portis says McNabb wasn’t ready for the D.C. media - DC Sports Bog - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dc-sports-bog/post/clinton-portis-says-mcnabb-wasnt-ready-for-the-dc-media/2011/05/25/AGg7nGBH_blog.html)

Portis and Barber can form the complaining duo in NY and take LaVar back with them.

So, Clinton Portis wants to play for the Giants... - Hard Hits - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/hard-hits/post/so-clinton-portis-wants-to-play-for-the-giants/2011/05/25/AGmW9HBH_blog.html)

^^ Portis is such a dumbass. I'm sooooo glad this turd is gone. One "me" player down, a few more to go. I find it hilarious he's bitching about the DC media, yet is talking about playing for the Giants. This guy is so stupid and listening to his interviews make me cringe.

^LOL.

Lavar....
I was thinking some of those same thoughts during my last days here as a Redskin, and now another former face of the franchise leaves feeling the same way.

probably for two reasons:

1: Since 99 HC's change every few yrs and players don't fit the mold.
2: Instead of building through the draft the team gets FA's, and the players come here to get paid then find out they don't fit the mold a year or two later.

In any event there is no stability in the coaching aspect and no building throught the draft for long term players. The Skins moto should be "It's all about change."

Yeah, I'd think the NY media would be Killing players picking them apart, but I could be wrong. I guess looking at the positive side of things Portis is trying to say the DC media and fan base are a knowledgable media and fan base who are starved for information. NY must have a lame media and fan base. Players can get away with murder... or shooting themselves in the leg. OOOPS.

I don't make a habit of commenting on threads without reading the link...but I have wasted enough of my life reading about what Portis has to say...my only thought is thank god he's gone...

I am a tad siappointed by CP's comments. But, I will always appreciate the time he spent here as our featured back. He came with his share of BS and he was a pain in the ass at times. Yet you can't argue with his production during, his willigness to put his hat on a blitzer, his concession to go from a one cut zone runner to a between the tackles yard churner (at 205 lbs.) or his seal of approval from Joe Gibbs. I loved CP in the B&G and will miss him as a performer.

That being said, business is business. CP, if you do go to a division rival....I am going to heckle you and encourge our D to lay the wood to you.

After you retire, I'll clap when you are entered into the ring of fame.

Portis also wants to play the Redskins twice a year (http://www.csnwashington.com/05/25/11/Portis-also-wants-to-play-the-Redskins-t/landing_redskins_loud3r.html?blockID=528608&feedID=9656)

Who is he going to play for in the East that will allow him to have an impact? The Eagles don't run the ball with the backs they have McCoy and Weaver. The Giants have Bradshaw and Jacobs. The Cowboys have Jones, Choice and Barber if they decide keep to him. Give it up Portis. We loved you but it is over now.

It would have great if Portis had let the way you describe him be his legacy without all the drama. The drama is why so many are not exactly sad to see him gone.
