Republican Mitch Daniels not running for president12thMan 05-22-2011, 02:17 AM Daniels Decides Against Republican Presidential Bid - NYTimes.com (http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/05/22/daniels-decides-against-republican-presidential-bid/?hp) dmek25 05-22-2011, 06:32 AM who? SmootSmack 05-22-2011, 09:27 AM A lot of people were hopeful he would. Still waiting on Huntsman. Pawlenty to officially announce tomorrow 12thMan 05-22-2011, 10:53 AM Huntsman will probably make a go it and they GOP establishment is already trying to draft governor Chris Christie and Congressman Paul Ryan to run. Good luck. More than anything this underscores the difficulty Republicans are now beginning to realize that beating Obama in 2012 will be no easy task. I think it came down to Daniels really not having the old fire in the belly. saden1 05-22-2011, 01:53 PM Like Huntsman...he seems like a pragmatist...plus his resume is stacked. Beemnseven 05-23-2011, 12:50 PM Daniels didn't really have the religious zealotry that the GOP hardliners seem to find so appealing. It would have been great to see him get the nomination if for no other reason than to experience the sheer joy of watching Rush Limbaugh's head explode. firstdown 05-23-2011, 01:11 PM Daniels didn't really have the religious zealotry that the GOP hardliners seem to find so appealing. That's an old stigma that the left seem to try and stick on the right. It would be like saying eveyone on the left is like this guy http://stuffunemployedpeoplelike.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/wake-and-bake.jpg Beemnseven 05-23-2011, 08:59 PM That's an old stigma that the left seem to try and stick on the right. I said the hardliners. I don't know if the bible-thumping knuckle-draggers are as numerous as they used to be in the party, but they are among the most active at this stage of the process, and they have to be courted if a candidate has any chance. I'm hoping for the day when the authoritarian theocrats split off from the Republicans and form their own party whose sole focus is to stamp out abortion and homosexuality. Rick Santorum can be their first candidate, they can get 1% of the vote, and then they can go f*ck themselves. |
