At some point, free agency will exist again. When that happens, connect these dots...
1. The Eagles took a kicker from Nebraska in Round 4 and David Akers is a free agent.
2. Perhaps that means the Eagles are not going to expend a lot of money and/or effort to re-sign Akers.
3. The Redskins need an upgrade at kicker ...

^ I really think Shanahan and Smith alike are high on Gano. Shanahan continued to inspire the kid last season even when he missed critical kicks. I think the faith is there, he's young where Akers is getting along in years.

You don't draft a kicker in the 4th without his being your guy. Akers is gone from Philly. I'd rather ride with Gano, though - his name tells you that he's a winner!

I agree that the coaches seem high on Gano. They are going to give him another season to prove his worth.
The kid is young. I say give him a chance.

As in most cases, when the Eagles feel someones best days are behind them, they get rid of them. No reason for us to try to bring him in. He didn't kick up to his standards last season. I say we give Gano a shot again this season, but if he is struggling AGAIN then we need to find someone else. Gano was horrible last year. I hated to see the guy kick anything from 30+ yards. He was just so inaccurate and so inconsistent.
Akers was 32/38 last year, I'd take that kind of production.

OH really, I didn't know he was that good. I thought I heard of him struggling for stretches. But if that is the case, then i guess i retract my statement. Maybe it was magnified by his playoff performance. Didn't he miss a few in a playoff game?

He missed two FGs in the playoff game between Philly and Green Bay. The rest of the year he was 32 for 36.
Akers is old; Gano is young.
In 2014, Gano may still be kicking; Akers will probably not.
In 2011, however...
