I think the whole "vacation" statement is being blown out of proportion. However, what this shows me is that Newton doesn't realize that everything he says and does will be dissected by the media.

He's lucky he is not in a major NFL market, but I think these types of situations are going to plague him throughout his first year.

The scary thing is, I don't think he was. This was the same guy who said he wants to be an entertainer and an icon. He puts his foot in his mouth every chance he gets. On Friday ESPN980's Chris Russell said he tried to get Newton on the show with John Thompson (pre-draft) because he thought it would be a solid fit as an interview. Well, he said Newton's agent/representatives said no because basically they were scared of what he'd say.

I don't have the exact transcript, but Deion Sanders asked what was the first thing he was going do after going #1, and his response was vacation.

I think Cam Newton is going to be an epic bust.

Cam Newton was with his mom at the time and Deion Sanders asked what he was going to do for his mother now that he was the first overall draft pick.

Cam's response was "We're going to do a vacation" something to that effect. She agreed and said that it was much needed.

I'm sure this guy has been heavily prepping since the combine so it's probably not a totally unreasonable response.

I'm indifferent to Cam's prospects but just wanted to clarify that the assertion that he wants to go on vacation is out of context.

What should have been the impression was a son treating his mom to a reward. Instead, what people want to believe is that he's a lazy bitch.

Seems like a guy who's gonna go balls out on every play and will be a positive influence in the locker room, yes it should be very easy to root for him.

I like both his work ethic and attitude. The two combined will help make up for any deficiencies he may otherwise have.

You gotta understand there are going to be people who say "he's a lazy bitch" just like I'm sure you were not the only one who looked at the comment and said "wow, he's thinking about his mom and helping her out because of all the yrs she helped him are now finally going to pay off." I look at it as the latter but.....

Nothing can be accomplished until the new CBA is in place so he might not see the money until season starts or close to it when he won't be able to go on vacation because he's having to work twice as hard studying the play book because he has less time then players usually get to study and practice. So although he has good intentions he might want to check the idea until the money flow is actually coming in.
