The draft itself is a crap shoot. However, the more picks you have, the higher your chances of landing people that will impact your team. It's funny though, this guy on Extremeskins broke down the drafting records of BB vs Shanny and Shanny actually had a better success record than the Hood Rat himself. Even then, I think Shanny has said that you'll be a genius if 1/2 of your picks pan out.
edit: I didn't mean to give off the impression that the Pats were some drafting gurus. They aren't, but they have more pics than anybody so their chances are probably higher they'll get more impact people out of the draft.
That's it. The Pats are not better drafters. They are just better at having more picks, giving them more opportunities for hits.

Plus the OLB position was a greater area of need than DE. Now we could possibly have 2 guys with double digit sack potential with him and Rack Daddy. Plus the guy has a non stop motor, wants to play for us, and he is just a solid all around football player. We need guys like him. Plus he has done it for 3 years as a starter.
I think the main need was collapsing the pocket and drawing blockers away from Orakpo. And while 3-4 DE's rarely do that I did feel that Cameron Jordan had that ability to get after the passer while still keeping blockers off our backers.
However the two things that make the Kerrigan pick better. For starters Kerrigan is a strong player himself. He won't be pushed around so not only are you getting a pass rusher but a guy that can play the run as well. The second thing is picking Jenkins gives you that guy between the OLB's that will collapse the pocket.
Still I hope Orakpo sits down with Kerrigan and says something to the effect of "I've been in this league for two years now and I've done pretty well for myself so far. However I've learned the hard way that my bull rush and swim move aren't enough and half the time refs don't call it when I get held. So the sooner you work on getting yourself a variety of pass rush moves the sooner we can start taking down QB's."

Tomorrow is going to be a big day for the Redskins. I want us to get Stanzi and i think it would be worth trading several picks if thats what it takes.

That's it. The Pats are not better drafters. They are just better at having more picks, giving them more opportunities for hits.
On top of that, the Pats have such a good team that they can almost always trade from a position of strength. Rarely do they need a "playmaker", hell sometimes they don't even need a starter. So they can wheel and deal and be in a position to move when they want to b/c they never NEED to.

This is what you should do if you're a team that has lots of needs, needs to get younger, and is trying to REBUILD.
We never use the R word around here--we're always "one player away" blah, blah, blah. This was a draft by a team that finally seems to realize they need fresh, young players.
We've got a ton of picks left--now the odds of one or two panning out are higher. And I like the picks today--obviously, we can argue for ever about scouting, but there we're no real bonehead picks. Can't ask for much more, and given our history, this is a big change.

Missed all of tonight but I've gotten a few updates. How the hell did we wind up w/ 500 picks? Like the Hankerson pick. Dude is huge.

Anyone want to throw out Offensive lineman that would be good for us? It's one thing to say draft guys in the trenches but I'd like to at least see some names.

I stand corrected. Kerrigans overall Combine numbers are superior to Jordans. So he's a better athlete on paper.
