skins89moss 04-29-2011, 03:29 AM I was very concerned about the predraft hype that we would try to trade up and take Gabbert of Mizzou. I think the best thing was to trade back if a player at #10 was not their such as AJ Green, Von Miller, Marcel D. I do like that we picked up a 2nd rounder since we gave a way our 4th rounder to the eagles for D-Mac who does not fit our plans. The 3rd rounder to the Saints for Brown was ok as long as we are going to resign him. If we don't then that will be another wasted pick. Who really knows what players will be great in the NFL only time will tell. I do think Kerrigan is a player who can come in a contribute to our team right away. I cannot wait to see what we do with our two 2nd rd picks. Hail.
CultBrennan59 04-29-2011, 03:57 AM Plus there currently isn't a #94 on our roster, so he'll get to keep his college number if he wants to. We'll see plenty of Kerrigan jerseys this fall.
Adam Carriker wears #94, so that won't happen.
On a different note, I think Kerrigan can be a great asset to Orakpo, and when/if we draft a good NT on day 2 (Jerrell Powe, Kendrick Ellis) this defense can really get rolling.
I'm very happy now more and more we got this guy for many reasons, Quinn had a lot of concerns (health, one year type of guy, character, tackling, and 3-4 ready) this guy was one player every analyst could agree would be a safe solid pick. And about Cam Jordan; he seemed too small to me to play 3-4 DE in the NFL, sure he played it in college, but the lineman in college aren't as big and good as the lineman in the pros. Plus we have more immediate needs at NT, OLB, OL, WR before we worry about getting a DE. And I don't think Bowers will be any good for us.
Dirtbag59 04-29-2011, 04:04 AM The most interesting thing about this pick as well as some of the other guys that Smoot has mentioned as possible picks is what it says about Shanahans evolution as a coach. When I see him pass on a top QB prospect to trade back and get an OLB the main thing it tells me is this.
- 'I believe that the main reason I failed in Denver (at the end of his tenure of course) came from my inability to put together a quality defensive unit.'
I think it also means this.
- 'I have enough confidence in my ability to coach and find offensive players that I can succeed with, late round picks, cast away free agents, and maybe a few expensive free agents, but mostly vagabonds.'

NM Redskin 04-29-2011, 07:42 AM So probably Kerrigan, Fletch, Riley, Rak as our starters?
skinsfaninok 04-29-2011, 07:44 AM I'm ok with the pick, I don't think he'll be as good as 98 but I do see Kerrigan as a player similar to like Greg Ellis former Dallas DE/LB. He'll have a solid career imo
irish 04-29-2011, 07:45 AM Very nice pick. I was afraid they were going to do something stupid. They didnt.
cdskins26 04-29-2011, 07:54 AM Two points:
1) Looking back, we will compare Kerrigan (and 2nd round pick) to Blaine Gabbert. Time will tell if this was a good move.
2) Is Kerrigan much better than Cam Jordan? Jordan had a lot of hype..
Jordan may have more potential and be better suited to the 3-4 defense, but Kerrigan is more solid, a safer pick, and can contribute early and often.
Also, while regarding gabbert, while we may look back and compare the trade, the rams passed on matt ryan and nobody seems to have a problem with that anymore. As long as we get "our" quarterback, whether it be this year in dalton or mallett, or next year in a guy like Luck or Barkley, it wont matter that we utilized this draft to build for years to come.
TrustinGibbs 04-29-2011, 08:11 AM I like this pick and the trade down because it represents something that smart, successful teams do and the Redskins in recent years have not done. They traded back and got an extra pick rather then giving away picks. They made a sensible pick at a position of need and seem to have picked a solid player. He's a high motor guy rather then a big ego guy.
Let hope for more of the same later today!
Alvin Walton 04-29-2011, 08:23 AM Very safe pick.
The trade for the additional 2nd rounder was sweet!
We may end up with a very nice draft.
