Skins Trying Hard to Trade Up to Draft a QB?
April 15th, 2011 Matt Loede Posted in 2011 NFL Draft, News
John McClain of the Houston Chronicle hears the Redskins are “trying like crazy” to trade up for one of this year’s elite quarterbacks.
Unless the Skins offer most, if not all, of their 2012 draft class (picks from which will be severely devalued because no one even knows if there will be a 2012 draft), we have a hard time believing Mike Shanahan can execute a trade up. They don’t have a third- or fourth-round pick this year. McClain believes that the Redskins are targeting Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert.
Then everyones favorite beat writer, JLC, picked up the story yesterday and continued to run with it.
NFL.com news: Redskins look to move up in draft, take Missouri QB Gabbert (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81f7f7de/article/redskins-looking-to-move-up-to-draft-missouri-qb-gabbert)
Several general managers believe the Redskins, who are expected to cut ties with veteran Donovan McNabb, will make the move to land Missouri's Blaine Gabbert. The Redskins have strong reports on Gabbert and University of Washington quarterback Jake Locker, and some inside the organization believe Gabbert is worthy of the No. 1 pick.
So what do you think? Do you want him? Are you going to turn in your fan card if this happens? Is JLC full of it? How would Gabbert fit into our offense? Can Gabbert block for himself? Can he play two ways and rush the passer on defense? Will adding a 100 pounds to frame to play Nosetackle compromise his mobility when he gets under Center on offense? Go, take the topic and run with it.
