- I have Griffin at $8.3M, but I've also seen $8M listed elsewhere so you may be right.

- I think Portis was $11.5M up front + $1.4M roster bonus in 2004 + another $4M in total roster bonuses in 2006 and 2007.

- Arrington, Coles, and Washington also have roster bonuses later on.

Arrington just filed a grievance with the NFL

The Arrington grievance could be a tempest in a teapot. We should all hope so because if it is upheld, there could be SERIOUS consequences for the team.

Assume for a moment that Arrington wins his grievance - not a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination.

Did the Redskins exceed the salary cap with any of their free agent signings because they were using too low a figure for LaVar Arrington? That could render one or more signings invalid.

Was this an "accident" or was this a deliberate ploy to circumvent the salary cap? Those are two VERY different findings. An accident would bring a slap on the wrist from the league. Remember what happened in the NBA when they determined that the Timberwolves had intentionally violated the salary cap? The Wolves lost 4 first round draft picks over a 5 year span. (The league gave them one of the picks back later on.)

Neither the NFL or the NFLPA can stand by while a cornerstone of the collective bargaining agreement (i.e. the salary cap) gets intentionally trashed.

Most probably, this is not going to be a big deal. But this situation does bear watching because the "disaster scenario" here could be REALLY BAD.

Arrington is turning into the Jaromir Jagr of this team. He is never happy and usually disappoints with his performance. I am beginning to think the skins would be better off letting LA's contract get voided then trade this soon to be malcontent and sign Brandon Short.

Arrington must be using Terrell Owens' crack-head agent. According to the Redskins management, it sounds like Arrington's agent f-ed it up.
If so, Arrington is not going to be a happy redskin. If the reskins are found in the wrong, it could cost mo money. Either way this situation looks bad and it's going to get worse.

at the very bottom of the Arrington article in the Post it mentions that Short turned down the Skins offer

I don't think Lavar is a malcontent. He said in the article that he both wanted to be a skin for life, and was willing to restructure to help with the cap. That he thought the deal was something different isn't necessarily trouble making, especially if his agent srewed up. Let's hope this can be fixed!

How about: the skins offer him an added incentive bonus for number of sacks? Work for the money, LA! (I'm sure he has incentives, but maybe this will really fire him up.)

I believe that Arrington's agent is the same one handling Ty Law and Orlando Pace and Chris McAllister. He is anything but a "crack-head".

Of course, he may have screwed the pooch on this matter. If so, it will be interesting to see what happens to his client base.

All I can say is this. The Redskins better hope that whoever they draft as the #5 pick in the draft does not have Carl Poston as his agent. No matter how the "Arrington Ado" comes out, that might be a "difficult negotiation".
