Nomad 03-08-2011, 06:20 PM This is pretty disturbing. I wonder what would happen if they required drug tests in order to receive welfare/unemployment... News Headlines (http://www.cnbc.com/id/41969508) You be suprised who is receving welfare........ Doubt drugs have anything to do with it. MTK 03-08-2011, 07:22 PM On a related note ever wonder how many employed people are on drugs? Probably way more than we think. GMScud 03-08-2011, 10:29 PM So what do you do when a person fails a drug test? I was sort of thinking out loud when I mentioned the drug test thing. I just wonder how many welfare/unemployment collectors are being enabled to an extent by their benefits. I certainly didn't want to make this a thread about people who receive any type of gov't handouts taking drug tests. I'm going to edit the OP. mlmdub130 03-09-2011, 09:09 AM On a related note ever wonder how many employed people are on drugs? Probably way more than we think. that all depends on what is considered "drugs" and i would say probably around 60 to 70% rely on some form of a drug, i know i rely on a few, alcohol being the front runner. this article is pretty disturbing, but does it surprise me? no. it's just a shame when people like my grandmother are having trouble affording their health care because of the lack of social security which she depends on(even though she works part time). while other people collect unemployment while sitting on their couch surfing the internet "looking" for a job, or taking their wellfare/unemployment checks and going to the mall. it just seems like everyone is looking for the easy way out any more, instead of sacking up and taking care of their own bussiness. firstdown 03-09-2011, 09:21 AM All these baby boomers reaching retirement age isn't helping of course... If the government did not steel our SS money to use for everything else SS would not be in any trouble. What the government did with our SS money is no different then what Bernard Madoff did with investors money. Yet the dumb public have no problem with the government misappropriating funds but wanted Madoff to hang. mlmpetert 03-09-2011, 09:52 AM I love me a entitlement discussion…… My beef with entitlement programs have nothing to do with the people that take free money, in fact to some degree I admire them. From the girl that says I might as well have another baby cause I aint working anyway to the kid posting pics on facebook of all the cool places he’s visiting around the country while on unemployment (its state of mind, brah). I believe its your duty as a patriot to take all that you are entitled to, just as much as it is to pay all that youre responsible for. In my mind how you use our “safety net” is purely discretionary. I do however have a major problem with those that allow these programs to exist to the degree that they do. Its ridiculous that there’s ANY incentive whatsoever to stay unemployed longer than 1 month. I was looking for a article I read a while back and couldn’t find it, but I did find this from heritage.org (a conservative site). http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2010/06/confronting-the-unsustainable-growth-of-welfare-entitlements-principles-of-reform-and-the-next-steps (http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2010/06/confronting-the-unsustainable-growth-of-welfare-entitlements-principles-of-reform-and-the-next-steps) |
