Great guy, high character on and off the field... but to be honest, he was just an average, so so player. It looks like the Redskins are finally realizing that they have to get younger, but they have to get better players too.
Yes. That about says it. This would also apply to the rest of the team over the last 5-6 years or so.

"Change" is an overused term. A top 10 4-3 defense to a 31st ranked 3-4 defense is "change", but I don't think that's what you wanted.
I agree completely with SouperMeister. Carter was a good 4-3 DE, and he should have been traded at peak value last year, instead of being released. Poor judgement by Shanny to switch too early to a 3-4.
We've also undermined the trade value of McNabb and Haynesworth. Everyone knows we're trying to get rid of both.
Better to make the switch too early than too late.

I agree about his 3-4 struggles, but couldn't the FO have tried holding him until the CBA was signed, then traded him for at least a 7th round pick? For that matter, the FO screwed up not trading him last year coming off a 10 sack season when Shanny first announced the switch to a 3-4. Carter's last season in SF was evidence enough that he was a poor fit, but he certainly should have gotten us a draft pick in return last year. FO Fail.
Not easy to trade someone with a no trade clause and a roster bonus due these days. It's not like they didn't try

I totally agree.
Not only that...but they could have traded Haynesworth, Portis, Rogers too.
All had decent value....and we may end up with none of them on the team with zero in return.
I would argue we could have gotten at the time
Haynesworth - 2nd
Carter - 3rd
Portis - 3rd
Rogers-3rd
Imagine if we had those pick this year! or even half of them
With the exception of Haynesworth, I have no idea how you believe those players have that much value, particularly portis.

Some have said he is average-above average talent, this can be true but he will make a lot of teams better in a 4-3 DE so I'm sure other teams will benefit by our inability to utilize a players skill.

They don't...Now...but they arguably did prior to this season...some people believed portis was going to have another breakout year under Shanny.
Portis was declining, true...but...he's a starting RB in the league and "arguably" that alone could make him worth a 3rd rounder...maybe a low one...but possible...now his worth is maybe a 6th rounder (if his contract was easy to swallow)
Carter is the same, Haynesworth is probably a 4th, rogers probably a 5th.
Of course, I am just throwing out my opinion, but these 4 have clearly had their value plummet this year in trade value...that is my main point.
It would have been nice to get good value before they declined.

I have nothing but respect for Andre Carter. He gives 110% on every play and is a team leader. I hate to see his spirit go but the game goes on.
Best of luck to you, Andre Carter.

This stuff sucks for me cause I get attached to players like this. But as we all learned being Skins fan with Old Danny Boy he dont leave anyone around for us to get attached to anymore.

"Old Danny Boy" isn't calling the shots anymore ... thank heavens.
If anything, this team has hung on to a lot of guys for far too long.
