Shanahan: Portis will be allowed to test the market (updated: Portis officially released)MTK 02-28-2011, 03:23 PM Best of luck to CP, love him or hate him he kept us entertained on and off the field. freddyg12 02-28-2011, 03:27 PM I dont get why people hate on Portis. Yes there were some negatives, such as not practicing(nothing compared to Riggo's negatives), but he overall did some amazing things for us. One of my favorite Skins. I like CP, but he brought a lot of criticism on his self by talking too much & throwing some people under the bus, including his head coach - Zorn. Even that latest interview w/106.7 he said something like it would be good to go somewhere where it isn't "Portis,Portis,Portis..." But he brought all that attention to himself. Again, I like him & actually hope he can come back as a 3rd down back, I just don't see it happening given the way these things usually go. He sounds like he wants to move on anyway. Chico23231 02-28-2011, 03:43 PM Portis was awesome, good memories and solid back. Out of the players who may still stand a chance to be back next year, I think Clinton stands a better chance than Fat A$$ Peice of Sh*t and McNabb. I could see him taking less money and returning. freddyg12 02-28-2011, 03:47 PM Portis was awesome, good memories and solid back. Hope you're right, and MS kept open the possibility. I hope for CP's sake that it doesn't become an Art Monk situation, where he could've stayed for less $, then tests the market to find out there's little interest, asks to come back at reduced salary but by then there is no roster spot. SolidSnake84 02-28-2011, 03:50 PM I dont think he will be back. My gut tells me that he will sign on with a team that offers a low salary but with good incentives for playing time. His comments in the past couple days and even today indicate that he does not want to be here due to alot of things, and he wants to go somewhere where he can be just a regular player without all of the drama and crap elements that are Redskins Park. Again, no animosity anymore from me towards CP. Good luck Clinton and if he decides to retire, we have great memories to remember him for. Way more good memories than bad. Kindof a crazy dude, but that's refreshing sometimes. I saw a blog post at another site, ask the question..Now that CP may be gone, should the Skins have traded Champ Bailey? It kind of pi**** me off. That was along time ago. CP is the 2nd highest rush leader in Skins history...give it up. He had a pretty good run here. It's time to move on. SolidSnake84 02-28-2011, 04:37 PM D.C. Sports Bog - Portis goes out with a [redacted] (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/dcsportsbog/2011/02/portis_goes_out_with_a_redacte.html) His final radio interview. He explains his mindset as to why he still insists he's a No.1 back. He says he realizes that the NFL is a 2 back system, but he will never accept that he's a No. 2 back. At least he's honest. I mean really, when do you hear about an athlete who is cut, or forced to retire, and they say "Well, i just dont have it anymore". They always say "I'm better than i ever was". Or, "I feel like i'm still in my prime", or for NFL players, they always say "I've got good football left in me". Portis is just not gonna come out and say "Well folks, my body is wore out, i just can't handle the load anymore". He's gotta try and sell himself for 1 more season. The only chance he has of becoming a no. 1 back is to sell himself as a no. 2, and emerge as a no. 1. Honestly, I don't know any team that would give him starting money. |
