Football was meant to be played indoors?Giantone 02-23-2011, 05:20 PM But hey, I don't want to sound butthurt, just because some of your opinions suck moose ass. :cheeky-sm ....really , how old are you? Alvin Walton 02-23-2011, 05:42 PM If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Football IS an outdoor sport. It was created as such. Baseball blows ass in domes too. Cardnials Stadium here in Phoenix is one of the most sterile, non entities of a venue for football I've ever been to. Give me the old RFK, Ralph Wilson Stadium, Three Rivers, Lambeau any day. Can you imagine if Lambeau was indoors? How incredibly GAY and PANSYISH and PUSSYBOYISH would that be. Grow a pair there, chief. If you are going to brandish the "Alvin Walton" avatar, you need to live up to the steel gonad, kill em attitude that he possessed. Go ask him if he'd like to play indoors or out. Boom, roasted. You really think they had a choice back then?....get real. Alvin Walton 02-23-2011, 05:46 PM ....really , how old are you? Read the thread there, Chief, I already covered that. How can you even bring up Three Rivers Stadium as a preference? That was among the ugliest stadiums in the history of sports, domed or not. Along with Veterans Stadium, Cowboys Stadium (not Jerry's World), and the Kingdome. The Cardinals stadium is a great state of the art facility. Personally I don't mind if a team plays in a dome or not, so long as the stadium looks good. Personally the only stadiums remaining that really bother me are the Metrodome, Edward Jones Dome, and the Georgia Dome (which is ironic because in person the Georgia Dome isn't so bad, it's just that it doesn't really project well on TV). Ralph Wilson and the Coliseum seem like they've served their purpose but they still look nice on TV. The Superdome only looks nice during the Super Bowl, besides that it seems like a trashy stadium. I keep on hearing that Qualcomm stadium is terrible but it's another stadium that looks good on TV (probably due in part to the San Diego weather). Still I don't really have a preference when it comes to domed stadiums vs outdoor stadiums even though the only remaining stadiums that I'm really committed to having demolished are domes. Both have their uses depending on the market. Only thing I care about is weather or not the stadium is aesthetically pleasing when I watch games. 44ever 02-23-2011, 07:23 PM ....really , how old are you? Yeah Chief go read, its a thread I personally will read again and again ;) SmootSmack 02-23-2011, 07:31 PM Ok, maybe a better thread title would be: The NFL indoors or outdoors, which is better? Your thread title and the subsequent original post threw me off. I'm all for playing in the elements personally. Step outside on a cold November day, breathe in the crisp air and you think "This is football weather" I don't generally make that comment when I'm sitting in my living room and turn the thermostat up CooleyFanOV 02-23-2011, 08:27 PM Not really, they are usually low scoring affairs and all the announcers talk about is the cold and the weather. I'll admit the New England snow plow game and such were classics but its time to move on...... This is exactly the thinking that has Godell getting involved in our game. There has become a push for high scoring affairs. The surest way to get there is to throw the ball and throw it often. And the teams are responding by going to the pass more than ever. This is also why we are seeing so many injuries and fines related to hits on recievers. The NFL/Godell are talking out of both sides of their mouths. "Pass more but hit less, equals score more". I swear people have become so ADD when it comes to entertainment. What ever happened to gridiron football? Its a strategy to move the ball incrementally. If we are just trying to run the score up, let's take away field position and let's line up at the twenty and chuck the ball towards the end zone. Bring back Spurrier too! Defensewins 02-23-2011, 09:02 PM Thank you CooleyFanOV, I have been saying the exact same thing for years on this sight. Godell and the NFL owners listen to fans that know nothing about football, suffer from ADD and do not understand the game fully. You have seen them, they talk and talk at a football party, barely pay attention and complain the the game is boring because there is not enough scoring. Then a team scores and they cheer because that is all they understand as good in a football game. The subtle beauty in football like defense, running game, battle in the trenches, balanced attack. A one on one battle between lineman or LB vs. Rb is lost to them. The NFL is quickly becoming flag football where throwing the ball is almost on every down. Sad. The cold winter weather late in the season and in the playoffs is the only thing that is helping to keep some offenses balanced. The rules should be set NOT by a popularity contest or TV ratings. The majority of fans do not understand football fully. The players should have a bigger say in setting the rules, not some out of touch owner or coach that has never played the game. sportscurmudgeon 02-23-2011, 11:18 PM Thank you CooleyFanOV, I have been saying the exact same thing for years on this sight. I was with you until the last statement. The NFL Competition Committee - - the one that has the most say in terms of rules and rules interpretations - - is a much better procedural way to analyze the rules of the game and to adjust the rules of the game as compared to players. Joe Gibbs and Mike Shanahan (just to keep this close to home) never "played the game" at the NFL level. Would you rather have them be part of a rule-changing process or would you rather it be Chad Ochocinco, Albert Haynesworth and JaMarcus Russell? Defensewins 02-24-2011, 12:10 AM I was with you until the last statement. Joe Gibbs and Mike Shanahan (just to keep this close to home) never "played the game" at the NFL level. Would you rather have them be part of a rule-changing process or would you rather it be Chad Ochocinco, Albert Haynesworth and JaMarcus Russell? SC, let me explain. I am not say disolve the Rules Committee, just remove a few owner/coaches and add a few players to the mix. The reason I feel this way is owners and to a certain extent the coaches will sometimes make rule changes to protect certain position players over others. They treat it too much like a business and make some decisions based on business, ratings and money. Not always what is best for the game or the players. The best example of this is all of the over board rules to protect Qb's, WR and offensive players, but the same rules do not apply to the brethren on the defensive side of the ball. If these rules are REALLY about protecting all the players they would be on both sides. But these rules were really past so famous QB's and WR's not lose games and thus not lose TV ratings. Lets not kid ourselves, if a defensive lineman goes down to a dirty play of an offensive lineman nobody in the TV world really cares. For example the chop block and various forms of holding are tolerated in order to protect their bread and butter golden boys. Our OLB Brian Orakpo was held at least a half a dozen times in every game where it was not called. But by contrast you innocently bump a QB after he throws or the Qb ducks to avoid a sack and the defensive players hands accidently touches his helmet and it called nearly 99% of the time. Of course only a few smart well respected players should be allowed on the rules committee along with the select coaches. Not the thug morons players. There are a few players on each team with quality college degrees and are capable of higher reasoning that can do as good a job any coach or owner. You are selling the player short due some bad apples. There have been some coaches who are idiots too. Tom Cable comes to mind. |
