skinsfan69 02-11-2011, 09:49 AM From a football standpoint, signing Rogers is a good idea because he's been actually playing the 3-4 NT position for the past three seasons in Cleveland and has the built for that role.
We all know Haynesworth is a POS, but this is my beef with the coaching staff and the approach to the NT position. 3-4 defense teams like the 49ers, Patriots and Steelers all made sure they retained their star NTs last offseason. Green Bay went out and drafted BJ Raji to build him into the dominant NT he is becoming. Shanahan gambled with a headcase 4-3 DT (Haynesworth) and a 4-3 DT with health issues that had not played the NT position since 2005 (Kemo).
Right now this team needs to be set at the NT position. Rogers is a little bit of help, it would be huge if he is able to stay healthy and out of trouble. But the team should also hope to develop Bryant and/or draft a NT in the draft.
Well in my opinion he shouldn't have made the gamble in the first place and just left the defense alone. But whatever, he's the expert.
SOUL-SKINS 02-11-2011, 09:57 AM First of all, we haven't signed him yet and just because we're bringing him in doesn't mean we're going to sign him.
This is, in my opinion, a harmless move if we do sign him. We have, particularly with no free agency or trades possible right now, limited options in improving our team. Adding some veteran DL help (and considerably younger than PD and Holliday) at what I expect will not be much money is fine by me. Just because we bring in one veteran doesn't mean it's the same old Skins and we're abandoning any and all efforts to get younger
thank you SS............people just f'ing freak out over nothing. Bring him in. Cant hurt.
mredskins 02-11-2011, 10:50 AM I don't see what one has to do with the other.
Because if S Rogers is playing he is taking up time that a younger guy could be learning. Just like if Moss comes back.

Using that line of logic.... Beck should have played over McNabb and Grossman. Our only option is to find the best 53 players we can.
BuckSkin 02-11-2011, 11:02 AM Wow... After reading my own post, it's " Madden " obvious.

I totally agree that bringing him in is no big deal. We're certainly not going to give him a big contract. He'll be 32 next month and hasn't played much the past few seasons. If he's healthy and his head is right, he could help out in the trenches. If he does sign, I'd imagine it would be a short-term deal with lots of incentive based money.
The only way this will be a big deal (in a negative way) is if we overvalue and overpay him, expecting him to be some sort of anchor.
Give me Rogers over AH, especially since he will cost a fraction of AH. And at least Rogers won't pout about playing the nose.
Can't fill all our needs in the draft alone, like it or not we need to sign free agents.

Ditto. I find it funny how no matter who's name is brought up at some point someone will inherently find something to say negatively about the player of interest. Since AH most likely won't be here, but he is hopefully the team can find a way to keep him on the field, it will be nice to have a player willing to play NT until we can either get Bryant playing dominantly or find someone else in the yrs to come. Maybe they can look to fill other needed spots now and maybe AH and Shanahan work out some sort of agreement and our DL is a monster next yr. <- I doubt it happens though, but AH could play a couple plays then Rogers could relieve AH for a couple of plays and visa versa.
GTripp0012 02-11-2011, 12:30 PM Rank the NTs right now in this league:
1) Vince Wilfork
2) Casey Hampton
3) BJ Raji
4) Shaun Rogers
Anybody else that should go ahead of Rogers? That puts it in perspective, he'd be a gigantic addition for us.I would put a healthy Rogers ahead of a healthy Casey Hampton, although in the last three years, their injury histories have completely flipped, and now Rogers looks like the guy who can't stay healthy.
