If you sign Rodgers then you can't sign it makes its harder and much less likely that we'll sign the younger NT/DE Paul Soliai.

Perhaps Soliai is on your draft board but what if he's not on Shanahan's? I'd like to think the coaching staff knows what their doing and has taken an evaluation of the team and has decided what positions are of most importance to them. Perhaps NT is not a position they tend to resolve in the draft this year. Maybe there are other spots they believe they need to pull from the draft first.

But just because they pick this guy up doesn't mean they won't draft your boy. Daniels is probably gone, Kemo is done, AH is probably traded or cut. So I'd imagine the team might just be looking at filling spots.

Soliai plays for the Dolphins he's a possible FA-NT/DE
He's younger and more productive then Rogers and he's doesn't have Albert Haynesworth attitude issues:

Cleveland's decision to release Pro Bowl defensive lineman Shaun Rogers and five others on Wednesday saved the Browns nearly $17 million in salary and bonuses in 2011, but money was not the only motivation behind Rogers' dispatch, according to general manager Tom Heckert.

Browns general manager Tom Heckert says the release of defensive lineman Shaun Rogers was motivated by more than just his bloated salary. (Chris O'Meara/Associated Press)

Heckert told The Plain Dealer's Tony Grossi that despite Rogers' ability to wreak havoc on offensive lineman, the team grew weary of the 10-year veteran's attitude and poor practice habits.

Rogers, known as "Big Baby," was listed almost all season long with ankle and hip injuries and typically skipped practices all week, save for light workouts on Fridays. The Browns were forced to draw up defensive schemes using as few linemen as possible because they didn't have a full lineup in practice sessions, according to The Plain Dealer.

A Pro Bowler in 2008, Rogers played in 15 games in 2010 but only made one start and finished with just 17 tackles. His $6.9 million base salary in 2010 was the highest on the team, and Heckert said the Browns were unable to trade or release the mammoth defensive lineman because his salary was guaranteed after the opening week of the season.

The Browns are likely to shift to the 4-3 defense under new coordinator Dick Jauron. Jauron coached Rogers during his stint with the Detroit Lions from 2004-05, and Rogers played in a 4-3 with the Lions from 2001-07, but the Browns were willing to part ways with the 350-pounder.

Rogers, now a free agent, has drawn interest from multiple teams, according to NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora.

Heckert cited Rogers' frustration with losing after spending his entire career in both Detroit and Cleveland. Rogers' career record is 45-115.

"Shaun's a different cat," Heckert told the newspaper. "Shaun's whole thing -- and he's stated a million times -- is that he's never been on a team that's any good. Every team he's ever been on has been bad. Right or wrong, I think it's taken a toll on him.

"I think if he went to a good team, things might change. I don't know."

And if NT isn't a priority for the team/FO they need to have their heads examined. (Obviously it is b/c they're looking at Rogers)

No I stand corrected. I figured Soliai was just another draftee. I didn't say NT wasn't a top priority I said the team may feel there are other spots that they feel are more important. As I also said we might be losing a few people on the DL so why is it a big deal that the team does due diligence on a player who has no ties holding him from getting signed?

I'd take Soliai if possible as well.

Maybe in Texas he is considered a DE in Baltimore and by the Ravens he is a NT

You can tell the people who keep saying that have never ever watched him play in Baltimore.

Rogers is a haynesworth clone. We need someone who will work hard have a high motor and fight.

Guy just got released from a team worst then ours? Enough said.

Yeah, makes you give it a second thought, but the guy is talented. However, we do not need another AH type sitiuation if he gets all goofy on us.

[quote/ "I think if he went to a good team, things might change. I don't know." That say's to me, this is not the place he would want to come.

If this team is going to continue with the 3-4 defense, they really need a true 3-4 NT. Rogers is not a long-term solution, if the team signs him. Neither was Kemo, and personally I don't think Haynesworth was ever even an option (in regards to technique).

Rogers is a haynesworth clone. We need someone who will work hard have a high motor and fight.

The team needs to get an experience 3-4 NT period. I'm sick of people talking about Haynesworth. Even with a good attitude, it would have taken Haynesworth a season or two to get the 3-4 technique down. We can bitch all we want about Haynesworth's attitude (rightly so), but this team needs to start getting players that fit a scheme, and stop trying to experiment 4-3 players into 3-4 roles.

I don't know much about Soliai, but for a team that needs a good NT, he sounds like a good option for us.
