New 2004 Goal: get Portis 1500 yds

Gibbs deviated from the plan. don't feed Portis his 100yds, don't win. new goal now that playoffs is lost:

get Portis three 1500 yds seasons. feed him the ball and hone our running game, not to mention drill it into Gibbs head to never abandon it. excessive passing killed us vs. the Eagles last night and essentially caused all our losses this season.

we should run like hell, and give Ramsey some @#$king target practice DOWNfield off the resulting playaction.

I truly hope Portis gets his 1500 yds again.

Watching last night's game, I was extremely frustrated that Portis didn't get a lot more carries. When he does and is successful, we win. When he doesn't, we lose. Why does Gibbs keep varying the game plan week to week? Some weeks, Portis is the man. Other weeks, he's almost an afterthought. Portis is our strongest offensive weapon and, for a lot of games, he has been woefully underused. I thought we went to the pass way too often last night.

And the final nail in the coffin was the choice to throw long on first down, when we had the tie and perhaps the win in our hands. That is just unforgiveable. Why didn't they give the ball to Portis when we got within scoring range? What were Gibbs and Ramsey thinking? I blame Gibbs because he called that unnecessary pass play and Ramsey because he threw it into double coverage.

I thought the Eagles were doing a good job especially in the 2nd half at stuffing the run. I didn't have a problem with throwing the ball, Ramsey was hitting on 64% of his throws, a lot of those passes were like an extension of the running game.

there were plently of times in the 3rd quarter where Portis should've gotten the ball instead of these short passes broken up by Dawkins and crew that even at 64% completion were only for a handful of yards.

giving it to Portis not only gives a throw of dice for him breaking one, but gives Ramsey tons more options and time.

it was a 3 point game. why did Gibbs have Ramsey throw so much?? he forgot our offensive identity and again it cost us. i feel terrible for our warrior defense and frankly Shawn Springs.

I didn't see Portis running hard after the first quarter it look's to me he's afraid of contact, he's was hitting the holes a lot like Trung used to where as Bett's was attacking the line of scrimmage, I think B. Mitch has to call Portis out again on that.

I agree 100%. Gibbs' playcalling was terrible. The running game should have been leaned on a lot more, and I would've like to have seen more of Betts, as offiss suggested. It really blew my mind that the Eagles D-line was totally decimated, yet Gibbs seemed scared to run the ball and completely wear them down.

Portis was running well early, and though the Eagles' D began to clamp down on the run, there was no reason for Gibbs to virtually abandon the running game the way he did. I couldn't understand why Betts didn't get a lot more carries, like he did against the Giants. It would've seemed to make sense, when Portis started to get shut down on the outside, that Gibbs would then start hammering the interior line with Betts.

There are so many other reasons the Skins lost (penalties, poor clock management, pass-blocking, stupid INT by Ramsey at the end), but I think Gibbs's playcalling stifled the Redskins' offense more than the Eagles' defense did.

Ramsey made a terrible throw on that INT, but Gibbs never should've put him in that situation to begin with. Like the saying goes, "ya dance with who brung ya," but rather than sticking with the agonizingly conservative, methodical passing game that had brought them within 3 points of tying and possibly beating the mighty Eagles, Gibbs chose to put Ramsey in the kind of situation from which he had tried to protect the young quarterback all season, and it ultimately cost them the game.

So let's say we kept with the conservative passing approach and we lose the game anyway. How many people would be on here today screaming that we should have taken a shot at the endzone at some point on that last drive?? I'm guessing probably more than a few people would have that take.

I don't blame the playcall, it's still Ramsey's responsibility to make the correct decision. For the entire game he did a great job at that, and on one play he makes a terrible decision for whatever reason and it ends the game.

Didn't many of us earlier in the year say we'd be willing to live with Ramsey throwing some INT's if the trade-off was him being more aggressive than Brunell? I know more than a few people said this, so hold true to your take people, you know who you are.

wasn't Ramsey who picked a pass on first down to begin with, this isn't a Ramsey bashing thread (unlike the rest it seems).

Portis should have gotten us into SAFE field goal range (and see if he could have broken a long one), and THEN we should have taken some shots downfield. we had an eternity.
