None at 10, I'd take locker around 20 but I'll play along and say if we did take one at 10 I would want Newton just because he's a freak athlete And has huge potential
IF We Take A QB At #10...Who Do You Want?skinsfaninok 01-14-2011, 01:53 PM None at 10, I'd take locker around 20 but I'll play along and say if we did take one at 10 I would want Newton just because he's a freak athlete And has huge potential Slingin Sammy 33 01-14-2011, 01:56 PM Great point by Angry on the Wonderlic scores. Right now, I'll take Mallett. Played in a tougher conference, improved completion % each year, big arm, played solid in big games, carried his team offensively. Locker had some horrible games, his comp % declined in 2010 with less attempts than 2009, his straight-line speed in the NFL will not be the factor it is in college. All that being said, we need to move away from the mid-90's Shanny offense and move towards the 2009 Texans passing offense with more run emphasis. Mallett is a better fit for that type of system, than PA and rollouts. As others have said, at 10 I'm exploring trade-down scenarios or taking best DL or OLB available. mooby 01-14-2011, 02:04 PM I don't think I want any of these guys. Locker - Questionable decision making, and accuracy/field vision problems. Feels like he could be either a boom or bust in the NFL. Yeahno. Mallett - In Shanny's system? Yeahno. Newton - Don't like that he has only one season of CF experience, and I have plenty of off the field personality questions about him. The talent is there, I'm just not sure he has what it takes mentally. If he comes in the NFL thinking he's hot shit and he won't have to work hard to succeed I don't ever see him succeeding in the NFL. That and I still think he was in on his dad's pay for play scheme. There's probably a 50/50 chance I'm wrong on Newton, but I just don't like what I've heard about him so far. Gabbert? Don't like that he is coming out of a spread system, or the fact that his numbers weren't even that eye popping for being in a spread system. I also think he's not that mobile, at least not to the level Shanny would like. In short, yeahno. I probably shouldn't have even come into this thread lol. Idw any of them as of this point, to be honest. But since a qb has to be picked for the purposes of this thread, I'll say Newton. Dirtbag59 01-14-2011, 02:06 PM I'm drinking the Kool Aid early and saying that Cam has more Big Ben in him then Vince Young. Maybe being a winner is overated and the BCS is corrupt but Newton has won championships on every level since high school (GA State title, JUCO National Championship, SEC Championship, BCS National Championship). I refuse to be miserable through the next few months worrying about Cam Newton, rather I will now choose to embrace him and his God given gifts. After that my choice would be Locker then Mallet. Maybe Ponder or Delvin in the 4th round but at that point I would rather draft an O-Lineman. Our chances of developing a pro bowl QB after round one obviously drop off substantially. 44ever 01-14-2011, 02:15 PM No question, Lock! sportscurmudgeon 01-14-2011, 02:18 PM This is a forced choice since I do not want a QB at #10 but if I have to... Ryan Mallett diehardskin2982 01-14-2011, 02:23 PM I would like for us to draft Locker, although he regressed last year I think he has the intangibles to improve with the right coaching. I would only be okay if we drafted Cam Newton and kept McNabb. I think he would have a positive influence on the kid, and give Cam the opportunity to develop some fundamentals on the bench. skinsfan69 01-14-2011, 02:48 PM I don't want any of these guys. Chico23231 01-14-2011, 02:52 PM Nor I, but to make this poll a question a bit tougher I gave us limited options. By the way, for those who are curious "Other" doesn't mean "Not a QB" You've got to pick a QB Dalton in the second round, but we could probably get him or Ponder if we dropped into the third round with an extra pick after trading out of the 10th spot. DCtoAZ 01-14-2011, 03:03 PM #10 Washington Redskins: Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri As mentioned earlier, Blaine Gabbert supposedly is the best quarterback available. He seems like he could fit into Mike Shanahan's offense, so he'll probably be the pick if he's on the board. I don't need to tell you how much the Redskins need a quarterback. For more on this quarterback, we have an interesting thread going about Blaine Gabbert on the forum. Other 2011 NFL Draft Possibilities: 1. Ryan Kerrigan or Von Miller, DE/OLB - If the Redskins don't like any of the quarterbacks, they'll take the best defensive player available. That could be Ryan Kerrigan or Von Miller, both of whom would upgrade a poor pass rush. 2. J.J. Watt, DE/DT - Albert Haynesworth probably won't be back, so the Redskins will need an upgrade on their defensive front. Pick change; previously Cam Newton, QB ***this is from Walterfootball.com** |
