Newton is a winner. Also, he is fully participating in the combine showing his competitive spirit. This guy is going to be a franchise QB within a few years. we will kick ourselves if he is there at 10 and we pass.

Agreed........... He's a winner. J Russel was / is lazy. I hate when they compare the two. This guy has Tebows mentality.

Gil Brandt would be “shocked” if Cam Newton isn’t taken first overall | ProFootballTalk (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/02/22/gil-brandt-would-be-shocked-if-cam-newton-isnt-taken-first-overall/)

Sorry guys, but this guy just told the press he is an icon and you know what that means. Unless this guy is the Lebron James of Qbing, he is doomed to fail,as this is the kindof guy the press, etc love to see take a fall. I think we need to pass on this guy, and not just for the showboating reason. We don't have the weapons for this guy to utilize yet. He might pan out to be a very good QB, but only on a team that has players of decent quality around him. By the time we do that, he might get banged up or just plain tired of DC. I still say we stick to a solid rebuilding the lines plan with the emphasis still on the O line.

Well he's young man but I agree with you, stay away from Cam IMO.

Hearing him calling himself an entertainer and an icon makes me very nervous about the prospect of drafting him. When he says that I'm reminded of Charles Rogers Lamborghini Living. Sure it's great that he's going to work out at the combine, but between his "father's" pay to play scheme and wowing media types at a preview of his workout. Well safe to say I feel like he's exponentially more concerned with his payday then he is having a successful career. Or put another way, I feel like his combine and media workout isn't a competitive thing/being the best player he can be type thing but rather a "if I do this I can increase my draft stock enough to get a big pay day" type motive.

I know I've been supportive of him but I can't stop picturing him having a Vegas post-draft party a la Ryan Leaf after these comments.

Jason Reid - Given the Redskins' needs, drafting a quarterback would be indefensible (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/02/22/AR2011022205071.html)

To take a guy 1st overall, who's played one year in a non pro style offense, that was in shotgun 99% of the time, who's favorite play was to just run the ball up the middle is just ridiculous.

It is concerning and may not be a deal breaker, but these things are RED FLAGS in my mind....

Definitely red flags.

You want your QB to be confident but this kid is sounding flat out cocky. I don't like it.
