Dirtbag59 01-17-2011, 02:19 AM For the most part Sanchez was pretty solid this year
I don't know. Considering the receivers and line around him as well as his style of play he was slightly below average if that. Baltimore game aside he played well during the first half of the season as well as a short stretch after the midway point. However there were parts of the season were he was just terrible. Green Bay and the second New England game come to mind among others.
He personally reminds me a lot of Eli in terms of overall production at this point in his career and I have a feeling that his late career will be similar to Eli's as well.
Anyway the point is I don't have a whole lot of confidence in Sanchez at this point during the regular season. Postseason though he seems to do a complete 180. Especially last week where he didn't really have all that great of a game yet he came through in the clutch when his team needed him the most. Today though he was simply flawless.
Defensewins 01-17-2011, 02:49 AM Shanahan, are you watching?
My hat is off to Rex Ryan. He knows how to motivate his troops.
Yes, he can be a rather disgusting human being at times, but his relationship with his players comes first and it is their key formula to winning.
What really impressed me was in an interview that was aired before todays game, Ryan took 100% responsibility for the early season blow out loss to the Patriots. He went on to say, 'when we lose it is always my fault and the other coaches for not preparing the players and game plan correctly.' He said it is never the players fault. Shanny? Thrown anyone else under the bus lately for your teams failures? Shanny look up the word team.
I realize Rex Ryan is not being 100% honest, but it is the message that this sends to his players that is worth its weight in gold and wins on the football field.
Playing football at this level is a lot like going to war. Players are putting their health, careers and life on the line and it can be a very physically painful sport to play. Rex Ryan seems to recognize this and backs his players. His players appreciate it and love to play for him at a very high level... most of the time.
Then in the post game news conference he was clear that the smack talking coming from his team this week was based on his players confidence and not being afraid of the big bad Patriots. That in fact he and his players really respect the Patriots.
My final observation: The top of the AFC is much better then the top of the NFC. Not just slightly, but much better.
Alvin Walton 01-17-2011, 08:15 AM Good lord, I hope any Redskin coach never acts like Rex Bacondonut Ryan. The guy is a buffoon. I'd be embarrassed to a have a slob like that wear burgundy and gold.
Chico23231 01-17-2011, 09:16 AM Playoff football. Where logic comes to die.
lololololololol....clearly. But you gotta admitt Sanchise has grown into his role and is playing at a higher level this year. In his second year he already playoff experienced and shown the ability to be clutch in pressure situations. He looked deer in head lights clearly last year and uncomfortable in the playoffs. This year he has taken the next step. The only great talent around him is his Oline. His RBs, TE, and WRs are pretty average.
Everyone who saw this line after the game 127.3 rating, 3 td 0 pics 7.8 avg woulda said that Brady's line and everyone woulda been wrong.

A slob who's been to two championship games in his first two years as a head coach, and whose players would run through walls for him. Yeah, we'd all like the Joe Gibbs of the world but while we wait for that, give me a slob respected by his players who wins over a good guy who can't last more than two years
SmootSmack 01-17-2011, 10:06 AM As for Sanchez, I never said he was outstanding (I'm not calling him the best QB prospect of the past five years) and I'm not disregarding the talent around him. Nor would I have traded up for him (largely because we didn't have the resources to do it and build elsewhere).
All I'm saying is he's improving, he's largely not throwing away wins, he's earning the trust of his coaches and I think he'll be a solid, not spectacular, for years to come. The Jets exceeded my expectations this year. But that's mainly because I thought the Dolphins would be much better this past year and they, along with the Pats, would keep the 10-6 Jets at home this year. But it's a team headed in the right direction.

If we're winning who cares who the HC is. We are just fans, we don't go out to dinner with the guy. What's the worst that can be said, "Your coach is a buffoon?" Any Jets fan would simply say "I don't give a F%#k, We are going to the Superbowl."
What can you really say about that? Especially as a Skins fan. "Yes we are a losing team but at least we have a nice HC" ??? I'd rather be winning! Let's keep things in perspective and give credit where credit is due. The Jets seem to have just the right combo of character and talent to win.
Rex has something to do with their success, Im sure.
skinsguy 01-17-2011, 11:18 AM Don't you mean NFC North team name? The Least has already been eliminated this year, only the Packers and Bears are left.
I actually didn't even mean to type East...it's just habit anytime I'm talking about the NFC.
Monkeydad 01-17-2011, 12:09 PM Now I'll be rooting for the Steelers to lose to the Jets, but I want the Packers to beat the Jets in the SB. A classless team like that doesn't deserve to win (reason I root against New England) plus, I do NOT want to see a bad QB like Sanchez or Cutler win after we passed on them.
Steelers fans are getting obnoxious around here so I hope they can be quieted this week. :D

Agree 100%.
This is football not charm school. I would prefer a coach that backs his players and stands up for them rather then our coach that blames the players and ducks for cover when things go bad. Shanahan did show some loyalty.... to his son....over his player.
Rex Ryan wins football games. He is a proven winner in this league.
Plain and simple. Say what you want about his personal life, he does his job and wins.
Some people are are bitter about how bad our team is that they only want talk about bad things about other teams. This is the playoffs, time to celebrate the successful winning teams, not put them down because they are not perfect.
