2011
9 total picks
4 in top 2 rounds
2010
12 total picks
4 in top 2 rounds
2009
12 total picks
4 in top 2 rounds
I definately see a pattern...they average 10 picks a year over the last 7 years or so...
But they only had 3 picks in the top 2 rounds total for the 2 years prior to this....I guess paying the price for a couple years can get you into a surplus mode like this.
I really like the idea of making trades for future years as you always get a round higher in return... Heck...why not trade our whole damn draft for a round better next year....then next year we'd have something like
3 #1s (2nd from this year traded forward plus our 1st traded forward for 1st and 2nd)
2 #2s
1 #3
3 #4s (2 5ths from this year traded forward)
1 #5s
3 #6s (2 7ths from this year traded forward, whats a 7th worth anyways? why not?)
1 #7
There is something screwy with that valuation thing....its just no one has tried this yet....we may as well do it and go hard after free agents in this great market this year...and we could then trade some of these to forward years too...heck...anything over 10 picks is just waste anyways...they aint all gunna make the squad.
We could do this in one year...it would be radical...but it just might work!
BuckSkin 01-13-2011, 10:55 PM Skinsnut, I think you are on to something here. we're not going to get the franchise QB we covet in this draft regardless of who we trade. I think you're brilliant.

Where can I get some? ;)
No drugs required, just a long-term membership to The Warpath.
We've had some downright insane offseason discussions here. It's become a tradition.
How the WP works:
Preseason = This is our year! Also, campaign to start as many guys off the street and practice squad as possible! (Colt Brennan, Chase Daniel, Ade Jimoh, Marcus Mason, Marko Mitchell)
Gamedays = Sky is falling, act like we're losing by 60 then when the game ends, say "good win".
Postseason = Sadness...
Offseason = Insane trade scenarios!
Longtimefan 01-14-2011, 09:48 AM Bruce Allen is already casting the bait out into the pond. No outright releases for our two most precious trade chips until the 11th hour.

A good PR tactic by Allen. No need to further diminish the potential trade value of the two players on the team most people feel will eventually be traded. Time for everyone to rethink their positions in search of more favorable options.

You forgot to include when the Skins lose, they are the worst team in the world.
When they win, they got lucky.
Oh and all of our players are horrible and couldn't start on any other team.

Yet we could trade them all for high draft picks at will.

And...since there will likely be a rookie cap...we'd only have to pay him minimum wage!

How dare you try to replicate what the Pats, Eagles, Packers do? Are you insane? That would never work here. The Future Is Now!
Yes, our draft philosophy has got to change. Getting extra picks now and in the future is a wise thing. I'm in awe of how many damn picks, the Eagles get each year and the Pats get each year.
BTW..check out this EXCELLENT, amazing article on how good the Pats draft.
How Belichick Wins With Spare Parts - NYTimes.com (http://fifthdown.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/01/11/how-belichick-wins-with-spare-parts/)
Based on an "average draft position" by team, NE is consistently the lowest draft position in NFL history, several times. One of the other teams...91 Skins w/ Rypien, Sanders, Clark, etc. Check it out, amazing article.
