Also, who is to say we wouldn't be a contender WITH Nnamdi? We'd have one of the best secondaries of all time with Nnamdi, Hall, Landry and Atogwe. Easily the best in the NFL today, but I can't recall a secondary THAT strong at all 4 positions. Plus, the 3-4 is going to be dramatically improved in Year 2...defense could be one of the better in the league if we can plug that nose tackle hole with someone like Aubrayo Franklin.

We're also likely to add Cullen Jenkins at DE, who may want to play for us.

A person familiar with the situation said that there is mutual interest between Washington and end Cullen Jenkins. If we get all three of those guys, this defense would be scary good. Even without Nnamdi, if we can get a Cromatie or Ike Taylor...upgrade over Rogers.

On the other side of the ball, we have great young depth at all skill positions. The O-line will continue to be the question mark, even more than QB.

We could end up with a Ravens SB-winning model...dominant D, good running game and a QB who is surrounded with enough help to be effective.

If the other thread is true and we'll actually be forced to spend MORE...we can definitely get all of these guys. Allen is eager to spend and he'll spend smarter to fill needs than the last regime.

good points about dallas, forgot about their cap situation. They may clean house & make room for him though, JJ can find a way.

I would rather see Rogers get resigned for reasonable $ but I realize he wants more. Hope we don't get in a bidding war for Asom. & end up payin way more than we offered Rogers. I know he's far better than CR but I don't think that would be good for the new mgmt./new look skins.

I definitely would not mind keeping Rogers for his true value, but he's convinced he's a top CB and wants top money. I'd rather let him walk and get a REAL top CB with that money. Preferably one that can catch a ball.

The only reason I wouldn't want to resign rogers is because he can't catch

Nmadi is amazing but we have a pourous OL, and pretty much need an overhauling at nearly all positions excluding maybe 8 starting spots. We dont need a huge FA we need to sure up our trenches and get good character blue collar guys who enjoy football first. IMO.

This.....is exactly how i feel. Nmadi is an amazing player but we need to fill so many positions that is would be crazy to blow all of our cap money on one player.

Don't read too much into the whole contender thing. I say that because Moneys the key to everything. Take Charles Woodson for example. Woodson, like Nnamdi was a pro bowl corner leaving oakland in his 8 year. Woodson said he wanted to leave for a team that would be a contender. He went to Green Bay who was coming off a 6-10 season. You can Not tell me he signed with them because he knew they were a super bowl contender, 5 years later they were but that season, no not at all, he by the way signed an 7 year $52 million contract, which was big bucks on that market, that year.

Look at AH for this case. He said he wanted to get paid and be on a contender. The Bucs offered him a few million more than us, and he said he came here because he believed we were contenders; The bucs offered about 2 million more in guaranteed money. Either way the guy was gonna get paid, and money was his first and most important factor.

All good points but to be fair GB still had Farve. We don't have anyone under center that gives us a chance to win.

Nnamdi and Landry are top flight NFL DBs; Hall and Atogwe are mostly unwanted as starters. Both have been unrestricted free agents in the past three years and had to sign deals for well below the going rate for an NFL starter.

Last year's secondary lacked anyone who could play the free safety position, and Atogwe brings at least that.

The best secondaries in football are probably Green Bay and Kansas City. Chicago is really good in the secondary. New Orleans is getting a lot better at that level, and Malcolm Jenkins and Jabari Greer and Tracy Porter and Pat Robinson would all be starters on the Redskins. Roman Harper isn't LaRon Landry, but that's not a big deal for them.

The AFC kind of struggles at pass defense as a group, but even the proposed secondary you have above has three pass defense weak links between Atogwe, Hall, and Landry.

Adding Nnamdi gives us a great player in our defense, but it doesn't make the unit better than the sum of it's parts. That's what the Raiders have found out over the years. You can have Asomugha and still struggle to defend mediocre passers. In terms of covering the other team's recievers, you're really only as good as your weakest link. Which for us, is Hall and our safeties.
