GTripp0012 07-07-2011, 04:04 AM I don't see him landing here at all. The bidding war for him is going to be crazy. On the other hand, these are the Redskins. They don't just participate in bidding wars, they end them.
I don't see Philly as a major contender for Nnamdi. I see Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Washington, or a return to Oakland. He'd have to take less money to go back to Oakland because of their cap situation. Given the alternatives, that might be the best place to be. --EDIT-- Oh, and Tampa Bay. Aqib Talib is going to be difficult to replace otherwise.
He's going to sign the biggest contract ever for a player 30 years or older, no matter where he signs.
GMScud 07-07-2011, 08:42 AM IMO signing Asomugha (a 30+ year old vet who'll command massive $$) would be a repetition of what has plagued this team for years. I have no doubt that Nnamdi can be a top shelf corner for another 3 years or so, but for the Redskins he's not worth the $40+ million in guarantees he'll likely get.
I like Nnamdi a lot as a person and as a player, but I don't think he's a fit here.

They used to operate that way, we haven't seen that same pattern under Allen so far.

Well, the extension they gave McNabb mid-season last year was kind of bizarre. Even though we didn't cough up a lot of guaranteed money and the years/dollars were misleading, it was definitely a head-scratcher considering Shanny and Co never really seemed sold on DM as a QB once the season really got rolling.

Yeah but that deal was to simply hang on to his rights for this season so they can hopefully trade him for a pick.

Well all signs point to him not having any character issues that I know, he is probably in the tail-end of his prime, and is easily one of the best corners in the league right now. So, money aside, I wouldn't have any concerns in signing him. My concern would be our terrible record of bringing talented players and somehow the team doesn't make them work out.
Now, it is hard to resist the thought of having a secondary with Nnamdi, DHall, OJ, and Landry. I think it'd be a pretty sick secondary having a complete shutdown corner (Nnamdi), ballhawking CB and FS (DHall/OJ), and a hard tackling SS (Landry).
Monkeydad 07-07-2011, 10:44 AM Uh, that's not even a particularly good secondary. Nnamdi and Landry are top flight NFL DBs; Hall and Atogwe are mostly unwanted as starters. Both have been unrestricted free agents in the past three years and had to sign deals for well below the going rate for an NFL starter.
Last year's secondary lacked anyone who could play the free safety position, and Atogwe brings at least that.
The best secondaries in football are probably Green Bay and Kansas City. Chicago is really good in the secondary. New Orleans is getting a lot better at that level, and Malcolm Jenkins and Jabari Greer and Tracy Porter and Pat Robinson would all be starters on the Redskins. Roman Harper isn't LaRon Landry, but that's not a big deal for them.
The AFC kind of struggles at pass defense as a group, but even the proposed secondary you have above has three pass defense weak links between Atogwe, Hall, and Landry.
Adding Nnamdi gives us a great player in our defense, but it doesn't make the unit better than the sum of it's parts. That's what the Raiders have found out over the years. You can have Asomugha and still struggle to defend mediocre passers. In terms of covering the other team's recievers, you're really only as good as your weakest link. Which for us, is Hall and our safeties.
Now you're just being delusional. :D
Alvin Walton 07-07-2011, 10:49 AM Who's going to ask for more money, him or Rogers?

Fair enough. It just doesn't sit well with me that Shanahan's first big personnel move as our HC was possibly the worst of his career. Not exactly a confidence builder, especially when it involves the most important position on the field. I know the DM thing has been beaten to death so I'm not gonna rant, I just personally don't want to see us pay out 10's of millions for another vet over 30 years old when we have so many other pressing needs.
Also, given D'Angelo's contract and the contract that Landry is going to be looking for after this year, we'd be ill-advised to tie up that much money in the secondary with Nnamdi.
Ruhskins 07-07-2011, 11:11 AM Who's going to ask for more money, him or Rogers?
Nnamdi won't need to ask for more money, he is going to get it and as it has been said there will be a bidding war for him.
I think Rogers is going to ask for too much money, but he won't get anywhere near what Nnamdi will get.
