Rookie cap may kick in for this year's draft. He wouldn't have known before he had to declare anyway

for this year's draft? That would mean a new CBA would have to be in place before the draft right?

The fact that this draft even might be the last one w/out a rookie cap & you're the virtually guaranteed #1 makes it twice as surprising to me that he would stay at stanford. He really could lose $40 mil even if he is still the #1 in 2012.

Luck had his reasons. the panthers may now go after Newton or Locker.bottom line is the redskins will now have fewer options at finding a QB in the 1st round.may have to look into round 2.

I would question whether they pick a QB at #1, given they have clausen & there's no qb on par w/ Luck. Maybe they'll want Donovan now? :)

Where did you hear that? Our very own Smootsmack reported that he's close to a deal with the Dolphins...

Yeah, but I later said I just heard from a former Stanford player who's still connected to the program that Harbaugh is staying...so honestly, I don't know. But the guy who told me Harbaugh is staying told me the same about Luck in December. I didn't believe him about Luck...maybe I should about Harbaugh

This is a big mistake not just because of the money but he is loosing 3 All-Star O-Line men.

Eh, maybe we focus on other needs and make a run at Luck next year. An expert I am not, but most experts think this guys is as about a sure thing franchise QB as you can get. Every team knows this though, so the chances of us getting him are very slim.

I'd have taken the money.

No money is guaranteed. Technically it is a 50 million dollar gamble, because SmootSmack is right, a new CBA could be struck before the draft and it would probably include a rookie cap for this year's draft. So he might not be losing much, unless he goes back to school, stinks it up like Locker, and ends up losing major draft position in next year's draft. Or maybe Luck isn't concerned about the money at all, and would rather have another awesome year of college before heading to the NFL. Sucks for the Panthers now though, because Luck was the only consensus #1. I have no idea who they'll go after now.

We dodged a huge bullet, at least for now. Hopefully an AFC team get's their hands on next years number one pick.
