I think we can take for granted that we're using one of our top two picks on a QB, but like last year, I think we go in a very different direction if we take a QB in the top ten/twelve, vs. taking the best available in the second round.

I think, obviously, this team needs a lot of help, certainly some on the OL as well. But we largely ignored the defense last year. I'm thinking if we go the first two rounds of the draft and add no immediate help, there's not going to be a defensive rebound despite all the talent we have on that side of the ball.

Unrelated note: would you actually extend a 35 year old Fletcher? He's going to be in the last year of his contract next season (and one year older, 36).

I wouldn't extend Fletcher, let his deal run out and figure things out then.

This is a great idea. The season is over. We need to decide who are going to be players for us in the future. McNabb is obviously the best QB on the team but he has problems staying healthy for a full season so having a solid number 2 that’s ready to go with actual playing time is really important.

I hope the rest of the season is used to evaluate players and formations that actually work on our team. Double check and make sure Torrian is the real deal again this Sunday, then for the rest of the season find out if we have anything special in Davis and Williams. Have Banks line up at receiver. Actually use 2 tight end sets. Start Eric Cook at guard. Start anyone but Rabech at center. Try Heyer at guard again. Play Kevin Barnes and Macho Harris. Get Darrell Young more involved.

Put in Rex .. WTF are you people talking about .. how about GANO makes a chip shot or an extra point .. RILEY doesn't get a block in the back call vs Vikings and we are right in the playoff hunt .. let DM 5 finish this thing out strong .. let's finish 7-9 or 8-8 ... considering we were 4-12 last year that's solid ... no need to **** with DM head anymore .. he's our guy for at least 3 years .. deal with it

When was the last time this team actually had a 1st and 2nd round pick in the same draft? Seems like forever ago.

2010: 1 first, no second
2009: 1 first, no second
2008: no first, 3 second
2007: 1 first, no second
2006: no first, 1 second
2005: 2 first, no second
2004: 1 first, no second
2003: no first, 1 second
2002: 1 first, 1 second

Wow. 8 years since we've had a first and a second in the same draft. Lets take a look at what those most recent expendable 2nd round picks cost us:
2010 - D.Mac
2009 - Jason Taylor
If D.Mac leaves this offseason, then we'll have wasted 2 consecutive 2nd round picks on 1 year rentals. That's not how you build a team.

Also here are a couple recent QBs that faced some advisity (sucked) in their careers and then came back from it

Rich Gannon
Steve Young
Mike Vick
Vinny Testaverde
Kurt Warner
Patrick Ramsey (just wait)

This has probably been the toughest year for me as a fan, but one thing ive learned is to not necessarily count a player out because of poor performance when used improperly. I mean look at how horrible our defense is. You would think there are only 5 or 6 starting caliber players on defense, which is completely true in our 3-4, but completely not true in a tightly controlled 4-3. Square peg / round hole thing. Maybe McNabb is a square peg in our offense, maybe Grossman was a square peg in Chicago’s offense.

Going by his contract "extension" next year is definitely not a lock.

That said I'd rather keep him, bolster the OL and add some more weapons than start over at QB again.

I'd rather keep him while finding an actual QB prospect to groom for the future. Not some 6th round pick but an honest to God first round talent. Mallet and Locker seem to fit the bill, with a slight edge to Locker going on account of his mobility.

Of course if I could hand pick a QB I would take Andrew Luck. That guy is going to be ridiculously good. The type of good that won't have to worry to much about what system he's in or who he has around him. He will be competing with Ryan for the title of best QB for his generation hence why we'll never be in position to draft him.

Anyway before you guys get on me about drafting a QB over a receiver, nose tackle, or lineman remember this. Vincent Jackson will be a free agent next offseason. There are no pure nose tackles that should be drafted before round 4. And all the interior lineman won't start getting picked until the second round.

It would be different if we had John Skelton or an unproven rookie we drafted with a plan for the future. We KNOW what Rex can do, even this season...and it's not pretty. He has no unlocked potential or upside, only the high chance for a catastrpohic meltdown!

I have no opinion about the whole McNabb Grossman thing but I agree, it's really depressing that we're in the position to be testing out over the hill back ups at QB as opposed to a young stud QB that could be the future. Not Good.

how about dan snyder never buys the team and we have five more super bowl rings? the only thing dmac is finishing strong is his giant bowl of campbell's chunky beef stew his mom whipped up for him.

i don't know how you can say we can finish at 7-9 or 8-8 and be serious. you need to sit back take a deep breath and realize that this team is not good and hasn't been for a while. there is no one player that we can buy this offseason and make a playoff run. if we finish 8-8 next year thats gonna be a pretty good year.

and unless you have heard somthing no one else has, i don't know why you would say dmac is our guy for the next three years and to deal with it, if i were placing a bet i would say the chances of him returning for next year are about 75%, if you think it's a lock you are kidding yourself, have you seen the cardinls or vikings play this year?

as for the sexy rexy start i don't see how it could be a bad thing, dmac isn't a rookie he knows what he has accomplished in the league, him missing a game or two to see what a back up has is not going to mess with his head. i'm with pistol petes point of view, if they haven't played this year or if there is a formation we haven't tried out yet, do it! we have nothing to lose. imo the next few games should be a try-out kind of like the bucs entire season was last year.

cam newton!!! :towel: honestly though i wouldn't be pissed if we got him. at this point the way the team is and the low draft pick we will probably have i think we should pull a vinny and go for bpa. when you really think about it we could use a play maker at any single play maker position, rb, wr, qb, saftey, ilb, olb, punter, the list just goes on...
