I have to say we are very weak at the point of attack on offense and that's center, Raymer is a definite hindrance on our offensive line he is to weak, and immobile, he get's pushed around in the middle forget about moving a defender all he can do is try to get in the defender's way, we have to upgrade at the center position in this upcoming draft anyone know who the top prospect's are coming out and where their possibly projected to go?

I agree offiss. Not only does he get beat, but he also draws alot penalties that kill crucial plays and/or drives. I mention on another thread that we should draft the best available center, but I don't think we'll take one in the 1st round. Especially if we have a high pick.

I like Will Montgomery coming out of VA Tech, but I'm not sure if he's a senior or not. I can't think of anyone else that has really stood out. Regardless, if we have a high pick in the 1st round we should draft the best d-lineman available. Then we can get a center in the later rounds.

I think we need a "Mel Kiper" type of guy here on the warpath that "scouts" players coming into the draft.

I think the key is who will be available in free agency.

dead on about the center Offiss. can't remember the last time we ever had a dominant center. Raymer wasn't good enough the first time we had him, i thought thats why we get rid of him. had to be a desperation move to bring him back.

that said, i think Gibbs will definitely get an OLineman of some sort first. only thing that could maybe tempt him away from that is some monster DE, but the D already owes us one for ST..

ill, I don't think it was desperation as much as value. Raymer signed a relatively high dollar deal with San Diego and had injuries that left him available. He is in the first year of a three year, 3.1 milion dollar deal. He's cutable, but there aren't many $1 million centers with starting experience - certainly not ones this staff feels can be coached enough to play.

As was the case with Larry (ugh) Moore last year, the Center is a position that relies on the people next to him a lot, because they are slower to get into blocks. Injuries have kept Raymer and Friedman from enjoying consistency there.

An upgrade would be nice, though.

I don't know what's going on with Raymer. He played well while he was here the first time, but he's been getting penalties like crazy this go around. Maybe a combination of age and injuries?

id say try and adress it through free agency, since we dont have a 2nd rounder, which would be a good round to grab a center. 3rd may be too late if we want an immediate difference. A smart guy at center with some years under his belt should be a top priority in the off season.

Raymer was never outstanding even when he was younger. He's an average player who's probably best suited as a backup at this point in his career.

i think Big C and Matty are right this is a free agency pick up thing with maybe a project rookie late in the draft or UDFA. Anyone big comming up to the end of thier deals?
