If he would have beat the Raiders (I still can't believe how bad they played), he would have 4 superbowls instead of 3. He's already the only coach to had ever win a SuperBowl with 3 different QB's. A feat, imo, that already makes Gibbs the greatest. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a Skins fan. Just about every great coach won SuperBowl with great QB's. Gibbs won with Theisman, Williams and Rypien. None of those guys will ever make the hall.
But anyway, back to the original question, if Gibbs would have won SB 18, would he be in the discussion with Lombardi, Shula, Noll and Walsh as the greatest coach of all time?

You mean he's not best? j/k. Is Shula really that much better than Gibbs?

No. But he's always considered one of the best. I believe the undefeated season has a lot to do with it.

Obviously yes...undefeated in 4 SBs?
no question...I already think he is the best...Lombardi was pretty good too.

Eh 3 QB's and 3 RB's in 4 Super Bowl Wins doesn't have the same ring to it as 3 QB's and 3 different RB's in 3 Super Bowl victories.

Too me he is the best ever. He won 3 SB with one good QB (Joey T.) and 2 mediocre QB's. His 1983-84 team set an NFL record at that time for most points ever scored in a season, 3X 1K yard receivers, etc. His best coaching years were not winning SB's, they were his last year on Gibbs I, almost beat the 49ers in SF in the playoffs with an injury decimated team and took the Redskins to the playoffs after the tragic death of Sean Taylor during Gibbs II. Bill Walsh gets all the accolades for running the Paul Brown offense. Joe Gibbs in my biased opinion was the best coach ever!!!!!! You can throw in NASCAR success and professional Racquetball career. A true WINNER !!!!!!!
By the way, Walsh won 3 SB's too.
