mooby 12-13-2010, 09:18 PM This is bittersweet news but in the end, it is right move.. Since we are out of playoff hunts, there's no point to rush Landry back in the game if he is not 100% healthy.. Basically what mooby said, says it all for me..
This will give us a chance to evaluate players and see who can be the best back-up to Landry for next season..

Reed Doughty hasn't played bad in his absence, but that's because Doughty has always been a true strong safety as opposed to free safety where he's out of position. I'd keep Doughty for next season, get rid of Horton because he's expendable (we don't need 3 true strong safeties on the roster, we should have 2 strong and 2 free), make Kareem Moore a backup safety (seriously don't understand how you can play free safety and not try to be a physical presence) and get a good free safety through free agency or the draft/trade.
No need to risk him this year, good call to shut him down.
And oh yeah, he's officially NOT a bust! ;)

maybe not a bust but he does have injury issues now...
i think everyone pretty much knew he was done a few weeks back, heile pretty much said it one night on news 4. the worst part is the way he was going he was a lock for a pro-bowl nod, hopefully he comes back hungry next year... maybe 20 lbs heavier...maybe as a inside lb :)
stay dirty landry

I agree with you on everything.. I used to be big fan of Horton, thought he would become a good story.. But it doesn't look like Horton fits in Hasslett's defense..

Big C 12-13-2010, 10:56 PM shame we wont see laron again this season but it makes perfect sense. no sense in having him re-injure it. isnt it an achilles? that would be very bad to rupture that. smart move.
SFREDSKIN 12-13-2010, 11:30 PM Is this injury require achilles surgery?
BleedBurgundy 12-14-2010, 09:35 AM Anyone else concerned that dude could be juicing? He put on A LOT of lean muscle mass in the offseason, he's been a remarkably better player this year, and now he's having ligament issues. I fully admit it's not likely, and i hesitate to post it, but I've had that doubt for a while now.
Have you heard about his workout routine? The guy is a monster.
jdlea 12-14-2010, 10:17 AM I heard on the LaVar and Dukes show (so take this for what it's worth) that it could "rupture at any time." If that's the case, it was definitely the right call to shut him down. The team has to protect a guy from himself and make sure he's not going to talk trainers into thinking he can go. If they let him go and he gets hurt, I'd blame the team. It makes sense to IR him and not have to take that risk.
The season's over anyway, no sense in putting him out there. We know what we have. I want to know if Doughty is good enough to be a part of this team going forward. I'd like to find that out about Horton too, but I think we may already have our answer on that. As for Doughty, he's a fair backup, but I wouldn't mind looking into FA for someone to make him earn his spot next year.
SmootSmack 12-14-2010, 10:31 AM Yeah, another player had a similar injury. I can't remember who. Randy Thomas maybe? Either way, that player didn't go on IR when his achilles was aggravated and he ultimately ruptured it and was never the same again. Skins don't want that with Landry
