My first attempt at a new thread and thought that this might make a good discussion

What is your opinion on "Redskins" football on offense and defense.

I have been following the Redskins for around 40 years now. As long as I can remember before the "Zorn" era we have always had a big bruiser for a running back. Names like Riggins, Brown, Rogers, Byner, Portis (to an extent though it definitly (sp) has taken its toll on him. Now that the Redskins have been trying to run it for almost 3 seasons with little production what are your thoughts.

4-3 or 3-4

Once again I can't ever remember the Redskins a 3-4. I know that we are going through growing pains so I won't say anything about the personal.

What I'm looking for is what you think Redskins football should be.

For all of Mike Shanahan being a part of the WCO tree, he is not pure Walshian at all. Play action and big plays are a big deal to him. The WCO primarily affects the passing game and tends to be more conservative and reliant on YAC. However, it's clear that YAC is harder to grab when defenders have become much more athletic than they were in the time of Walsh, and Holmgren was a "purist".

Also, teams who seems to be "power teams" are actually ZBS teams, such as Carolina and Oakland.

I'm sick of the term "Redskin Football". As if it's a brand name or something.

I want some "winning football" around here for once. If that mean passing the ball 50 times or running the ball 50 times. Who friggin cares. Just win goddammit.

I don't care what it looks like as long as we win.

Air Coryell and 4-3 a proven winning combination 3 SB wins each by the Redskins and cowboys, greatest show on turf by the Rams.

Yea problem is, you have to have the players to run that system. All of those teams also had a GREAT RB to go with that pass attack.. With our current roster that would take years to build.. I think we screwed up when we fired Norv, I have always said that. The guy can coach and always has a top offense.

At this pace getting rid of old players and acquiring young ones, rebuilding the lines, getting a QB, WR's, a RB are #1 priority. Our current roster is in need of updating, it would be nice. Only problem is, you would need to get rid of Shanahan who is a WCO and that ain't happening and he is committed to the 3-4. We know how stubborn he is.

Yea but Kyle ran a high powered offense with houston when they threw it all over the field. I honestly think its time for the Skins to just focus mainly on offense. Our D will take time to get the players for a 3-4 but our main priority should be WR. I wouldn't mind 2 new starters at WR next season.

It all comes down to what you've got in the trenches. Timmy Smith was not a great RB. Neither was Earnest Byner. If you've got great line play you've got a winning team.
