Titans linebacker Will Witherspoon's helmet-to-helmet hit on Donovan McNabb proved costly for the Titans last Sunday. It also proved costly for Witherspoon this week, as the NFL fined him $40,000.

not sure this needed a thread, but couldn't find a spot for it. i think witherspoon has a point though. while this hit was definitely a fine-able hit i don't think it was a $40k hit. is there any guideline to how the fine is figured up or do they just go by the "wow" factor?

That's what you get for leading with your helmet, and making helmet to helmet contact, on a quarterback no less. That's three strikes right there and you know the NFL isn't going to take it lightly. My biggest worry is one of our defensive players doing it to somebody else and getting smacked with a huge fine. I'm pretty sure Witherspoon is a repeat offender too, so that probably played into it.

Honestly it's just stupid. You know by now you have to lead with your shoulder, hit them in the shoulder or chest, and especially be careful around the qb because it's obvious they matter to the NFL more than other players.

Thats what I was gonna say.I think Big ben and his teammates are right when they said if it would have been Manning or Brady Seymoure would have been suspended.

If it were either of them two that would constitue a 4 game supsension at the very least.

One of the few times that the NFL got it right. This was a dirty hit and it looked like there was some intent. Otherwise all of the other ones have simply been awful.

Stiff fine but I can't feel bad for the guy, everyone knows the league is cracking down.

The players can continue to moan about the fines being excessive, but I don't think the league is going to change it's stance on what it's trying to accomplish just because they continue to complain. It's up to the players to get it right, the fines will continue to be levied until they do.

if it would have been Brady or Manning, they would have instituted a *new* rule.

I sure hope there is a paper trail from where this Money is going on these fines.
If I was the team, offender and organization (recipient) of these fines,I would want bank statements on this money flow.

Sorry for wearing my conspiracy hat today, but this money are crazy amounts.

I would just want to glance and make sure there's no Obama/Resko/Goodell fund from Switzerland..that's all..lol

no biggie...:)

This money better be going to United Way or recycled back in Football and not in peoples pockets...

Oh what are we kidding...You know there's something going on,in this evil world.
Somebody has their hands in this Football "fine" cookie jar.
