Daseal 12-05-2004, 11:15 AM We find out at 5 today. 12-0 in the hardest college football conference in the world. Beat a ranked opponent (15) by 10 while USC almost lost to unranked (6-4) UCLA team. They won by a mere 5 points. God is this system flawed.
joecrisp 12-05-2004, 11:55 AM I hope not. My Dad is an Auburn alum, as are several of my relatives. Auburn really deserves a shot at the title.
Gmanc711 12-05-2004, 12:25 PM Auburn really deserves it more than any of the teams, I belive. But its pretty clear they are going to be the odd team out. The BCS sucks! On top of that, Calafornia who went 11-1, with their only loss being a 7 pt heartbreaker to FREAKING U.S.C the #1 team all season, is going to get left out of the BCS as well. Unreal. This system blows.
Defensewins 12-05-2004, 12:28 PM The powers that be in college football just don't get it....pack of idiots. This clearly demonstrates that the college football hierachy and the NCAA are seroiusly flawed. There is too much power at the top. How can 99% of players, coaches, students, alumni, press, TV networks and fans all want a playoff system. But because of a couple dozen college presidents say no we are stuck with this BS system we have now. How many more Co-National Champions do we need to have before the system is fixed? Co-National Champs - what a joke. It irks me to just say or write it!
skinsguy 12-05-2004, 12:38 PM I think some aspect of a playoff system would be fair. I'm not sure on the details, but I think as long as you're going to have the BCS, it's always going to be flawed.
d151b 12-05-2004, 01:14 PM lets do a playoff I-AA has a playoff, why can't the big boys? and for all you auburn apologists, cry me a river... they played a weak schedule. they played the citadel ul monroe, etc. their strength of schedule is much weaker than the likes of ou or usc. yeh, the bcs is flawed, but all the human polls have ou and usc 1 and 2 as well.... so your arguement doesn't hold any water!
skinsguy 12-05-2004, 01:18 PM Is Auburn going to play Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl?
Daseal 12-05-2004, 01:24 PM That's the guess right now, skinsguy.
D151B: The also beat:
LSU defending champs, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee x2, Mississsippi and Mississippi State (SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT), many of those teams ranked when they played them.
USC had their share of easy games too. Arizona? Colorodo State? Hell, they almost lost to Stanford and UCLA.
Oklahoma got Bowling Green, Houston, Texas Tech, Baylor, and Colorodo. Everyone has easy games in college ball.
Auburn soundly defeated every team it played and they deserve every shot in the world. Hopefully the announcers will say what happens with voting during the skins game.
Gmanc711 12-05-2004, 01:29 PM lets do a playoff I-AA has a playoff, why can't the big boys? and for all you auburn apologists, cry me a river... they played a weak schedule. they played the citadel ul monroe, etc. their strength of schedule is much weaker than the likes of ou or usc. yeh, the bcs is flawed, but all the human polls have ou and usc 1 and 2 as well.... so your arguement doesn't hold any water!
Oh you HAVE to be kidding me.....
Auburn played a much tougher schedule, the SEC is so much better than the Pac 10 and Big XII
USC:Top Teams they beat Va. Tech/Cal. And they struggled w/ Oregon St and UCLA
Oklahoma: Top teams they beat Texas
Auburn: Tennesee x2, LSU, Georgia
Just because their out of conference schedule isnt as tough dosent mean their in conference is. They played a MUCH tougher schedule than the other two.
d151b 12-05-2004, 01:30 PM 10-9 against lsu was a sound thumping indeed ;-) if you look at auburn's opponents combined win loss record is way below what usc and oklahoma played. i think they have an arguement but not much of one. if someone wants to talk about how the bcs is flawed why don't you mention how texas who's only loss was against the #2 ranked team in the nation, might be left out of a bcs bowl game. now that's just plain criminal. i really feel for the ut fans, but maybe they'll jump cal this week, who knows?
