Locker doesn't strike me as a "gotta have" kinda guy. I'm ok with potentially missing out on him. It's not like he's a Sam Bradford type of prospect. That's the kind of prospect you go hard after. Not someone like Locker who could possibly fall out of the first round.

Exactly. Trade down, aquire picks and try to get Locker. If he gets snatched before us then look to Ponder or another player.
If the option to trade down is there at #10 then you have to pull the trigger. Extra pick means extra player. Is Locker worth 2 picks (1st and a 2/3)?

If thats the case and they are perplexed then they should trade back again in the 2nd round before taking a QB.
I don't buy the whole "the price was to high" argument teams use for not getting a trade done. When it's a franchise QB and future picks can be used there is no price you can't pay. Take the famous chart value from going from #4 up to #1 and start there...then you keep adding picks until you get a yes. babe Ruth and Wayne Gretzky were traded...Every player has a price tag. This is a QB league now more then ever...you are not even in the game until you have one.
You have to consider B. Allen & Shanahan's position though. They just took over & were tasked w/transforming the culture & team; trading away the whole draft a la M.ditka for Ricky williams, would be a tough way to start that.

I see your point...my problem is more with him gushing over bradford after the fact. If Shanny felt that strongly i would be on board with whatever he traded away.

I seem to recall alot of folks on here (ahem...including myself) knocking Bradford and saying we shouldn't pick him at #4, let alone trading up. Hindsight is 20/20.

I don't believe I was one of them, but I remember the debate; a lot of us said why draft a qb to play behind a sorry o line? I think you draft a qb, sit him for a couple years, then build up the line.
What it all comes back to is having too many needs, too few picks. As long as this team has so many holes to fill, we'll always debate the priority positions & need v. best player.
On a positive note, I've really noticed the last year or so that most everyone that posts here regularly feels this team has many needs. Before there was always talk of being a few players away. I say it's positive because maybe the fanbase is ready to truly see a rebuilding project.

You just said Locker is good enough to go as early as 12th. So how do you trade down and still get Locker? If a player is good enough to go anywhere from 12 to 32 then he's also good enough to go 10th. Your trade down would make more sense if you thought the earliest Locker would go was 25 or lower.
I said 12-32, not 12 only. The only reason I said he could go as early as 12 is any given team can be crazy high on Locker and reach for him. I would not take Locker 12th or 1-25. With the depth of talent in this draft class, I think he is a LATE 1st or early second. But that is just my opinion and where he will end up going is diffrent on where I think he should go.
So with my opinion, trading down to the 15-25 range, you should be able to land Locker IMO.
But I do not think he is a top of the 1st round talent. Not right now 3/31/2011.
Give a year to develop and he could be the next.....?

If we trade back for a QB then he's not worth it IMO. Trade back and go OL/DL/LB in any order.

I would have been thrilled with Bradford at #4 last year. But I don't think any QB this year is at Bradford's level.
I think we should draft a QB this year but haven't identified one yet I think can truly be our franchise guy
Waiting for Matt Barkley in 2012...kidding...or am I?
