skinsfan69 12-28-2010, 07:40 PM I'm watching College Football Live right now. They just sold me on wanting to draft Kellen Moore. He got the Boise State play book off the internet and had it memorized BEFORE he went to school there. They said he was teaching OLinemen where to go when he first got there. He is a film rat and his processing and ability to read defenses is faster than just about anyone. Sounds like a Peyton Manning-esque kind of player to me. I am going to be pulling for Shanny to draft him now. I am officially starting the Kellen Moore Mob. Whose with me?
I like Moore and I think you're pretty right on with your statements. Not sure if he's got an NFL arm though.
skinsfan69 12-28-2010, 07:44 PM Im gonna go ahead throw my support behind taking AJ Green WR with our first pick. I dont see a quarterback outside of Luck worth a first and Im doubting Luck is coming out. Oline pick is out of the question at our position. OT are weak and I wouldnt support taking an interior lineman with a top 15 pick. Not one first round RB talent either this year. Ingram? ha, not that good.
Green is the best WR in the draft and what i consider a threat everytime he touches the ball...wouldnt that be nice for a change? DaQuan Bowers would be my second choice, top on defense. But he is probably gonna go between 5-10...maybe higher.
So with the Redskins first pick, AJ Green WR out of Georgia
Do you really want to go the WR route again? It's the most hit or miss position in the draft. Look at Calvin Johnson. Has he made Detroit any better? Nope. They're still a bottom feeder. Gotta get some linemen first.
skinsfan69 12-28-2010, 07:46 PM In the later rounds, I really hope we get a true homerun hitting type of RB. Someone like Noel Devine. A guy that can catch it out of the backfield and get 5-10 carries a game.

I think our biggest concern on the line is the interior line with both guard positions and a center. I think GTripp made a post in another thread about Shanny's draft history with linemen. With the exception of LT, all his interior linemen have been drafted in rounds 4-6 and only one was a bust. Sounds like we can have our cake and eat it too? However I do agree with you that if we take AJ Green we start down the Detroit path which is a place I do not care to go.

So with the Redskins first pick, AJ Green WR out of GeorgiaYeah, I'm not seeing how this QB thing is going to line up for us. Sure, if we want to take Jake Locker in the first round, we'll be able to nab him in the middle of the round. But that wouldn't be much of a pick.
If Luck, Gabbert, and Foles all stay in college, I would avoid a top round QB in this draft just on the strength of the 2012 draft class. If the choices are to pick up Jake Locker and lose a bunch of games, or to lose a bunch of games with Chad Henne/Matt Leinart/Matt Moore/Carson Palmer at QB and possibly be in position to land Andrew Luck in 2012, lets take the latter route.
If Gabbert and Luck both come out this year, next year's draft would appear to be very weak anyway, so then I'd support taking the best available QB in this draft and doing whatever it takes to make him successful.

What so Tripp has done so much analysis on this site that now he gets credit for one of the few things I put together? For shame! SkinzWin? More like SkinzLoose!
Anyway all kidding aside, that wasn't exactly the most comprehensive list. Basically what I was showing was a combination of the most successful and noteworthy lineman drafted by Shanahan during his time in Denver. In fact I thought I had left out a large amount of lineman drafted by Shanahan during his tenure in Denver only to find out that I had left out a measly 5 players. Two of which have gone on to have productive NFL careers. I've updated the list to include the 5 draft picks I left out
1995
Jamie Brown - Tackle - 4th Round (9 Career Starts, Former Redskin, Bust)
1996
Dan Neil - Guard - 3rd round - (104 Career Starts)
Trey Teague - Center - 7th Round (94 Games Played, 80 Career Starts only 20 of which was with the Broncos)
Chris Banks - Guard - 7th Round (Well at least he got a Super Bowl ring, 5 Career Starts)
Matt Lepsis - Tackle - Undrafted (133 Starts at LT, 2005 SI All-Pro)
1999
Lennie Friedman - Guard - 2nd round last pick (Former Redskin)
2000
Cooper Carlisle - Guard - Round 4 - 2000 (2 Year Starter in Denver, Current Starter in Oakland)
2001
Ben Hamilton - Center/Guard - Round 4 (Former Bronco 110 Career Starts, Pushed out By McDaniels Regime)
2003
Ben Claxton - Center - 5th Round Picks (0 Career Starts but still in the league)
2004
George Foster - Tackle - Round 1 (Bust, Out of the League, Known for infamous cut block)
2005
Chris Meyers - Center/Guard - Round 6 (Current Texans Starter)
2006
Chris Kuper Guard - Round 5 - (Current Bronco's Starter)
Greg Eslinger - Center - Round 6 (Current Free Agent)
2007
Ryan Harris -Tackle - Round 3 (Current Bronco's Starter)
2008
Kory Lichtensteiger - Guard - Round 4 (Current Redskins Starter)
Ryan Clady - Tackle- Round 1 (One of the best tackles in the game)
So to sum up. Out of 15 lineman drafted from 95-08 very few amounted to nothing. 10 became starters under the elder Shanahan while 11 became starters on a Shanahan/Kubiack coached team. 5 out of 8 picked between rounds 4-6 became starters under Shanahan (6 if you expand to include Meyers starting in Houston).
Only 4 were quickly in and out of the league. So with that said I guess theres a good chance that either Cook or Capers will make something of themselves, though it should be noted that some of the guys listed above rode the bench for as long as 4 years before getting a chance.
Shadowbyte 12-29-2010, 12:44 AM I'm a big Kellan Moore fan too. He's either going to be the next Drew Brees or the next Ty Detmer. It's almost impossible to forecast which one he'll be more akin to.
SkinzWin 12-29-2010, 01:27 AM My apologies Dirtbag!! You know I always enjoy your insightful perspective into all that is Redskins. Maybe, just maybe, that's a shot back for your comment about Kellen Moore....
Bucket 12-29-2010, 04:13 AM If AJ Green drops to us we need to pick this guy up. Our defense at best next year will still be the middle of the pack, and we can't keep scoring 19.2 points a game if we expect to win more the 50% of our games. So we are going to need the weapons on offense.
Torain proved to be a solid RB this year averaging well over 4 yards a carry, and with more weapons like Moss, Green, Armstrong, Davis, Cooley... Even a journeyman like Grossman can look multiple times better then he is.
Thats not including guys like Austin, or Banks who may step up on the WR end next year. I remember Moss being a return guy only, and transformed into a great WR. Same as Steve Smith, and Devin hester who have become solid/good ones as well.
If Green doesn't fall to us then we need to go defense with Marcell Dareus. We need someone else on the Dline who can wreck havok, and help Orakpo and Fletcher make plays.
Ryan Kerrigan is also a beast I would like to see playing for the Skins. Could you imagine Orakpe, Fletcher, Riley, Kerrigan as our LB's? If we are really going the Steeler defense route then it's all about the LB's, and that would be a great move in that direction
I guess we will see what will happen, but I would rather have the great pieces in place for our next QB then putting a QB in now, and building around him.

AJ Green would definitely be an okay pick if he fell to us. However, I'm not sold on us needing an OLB as our first overall pick. If Rob Jackson winds up panning out, which if his practice and first game are any indication we are in good shape, then we need to go with an ILB. We don't have a true big ILB that we need for the 3-4 scheme. Fletcher is doing well but is not going to be playing too much longer and Rocky just isn't cutting the mustard.
