That's BS, Casserly gave Pettion "Reggie Brooks". That was enough talent right their with the holdovers to go to the SB.
What happened to Richie Petibon? I love youtubeKLHJ2 11-11-2010, 02:39 PM That's BS, Casserly gave Pettion "Reggie Brooks". That was enough talent right their with the holdovers to go to the SB. CrustyRedskin 11-11-2010, 02:47 PM Thanks for the info Smack! Mo Elewonibi, RP should have won 8 games with just him. saden1 11-11-2010, 02:55 PM RP took over an old team that had just peaked a year earlier and was ripe for a big collapse. He really didn't get a fair shake as HC. After a decade of just flat out dominating the NFL there's only one way to go and it ain't up. Petibon had no one on that roster...most Redskins ballers moved on, retired or were at the end of their careers. Anyone that blames Petibon for that terrible 1993 season has no clue. Longtimefan 11-11-2010, 02:58 PM During Richie's introductory press conference he stated it was going to be "business as usual" unfortunately for him, his opportunity came immediately following the first year free agency was introduced. He and Larry Peccatiello did the best they could with an aging and underachieving team. I always admired his methods, he had a different scheme for every team we played, the intent being to take away the strength of the opposition. SolidSnake84 11-11-2010, 03:57 PM So after Petibon was fired, was he out of the NFL?? Seems to me as successful of a defensive coach as he was, he would be able to find work again in the NFL, but i can't find anything on him. He was only 56 years old when he was fired....he still had plenty of time to coach in the NFL...does anyone know where he went after leaving Washington??? MTK 11-11-2010, 04:34 PM I think he just retired after that. freddyg12 11-11-2010, 04:47 PM There was some article last year about what Petitbon is up to these days. It was during the whole Zorn downfall in the 2nd half of last year. I thought Petitbon was a fantastic defensive coordinator who had the poor timing of being a head coach during a year of transition for not only the Skins but the NFL (with the advent of modern day free agency I believe beginning that year). But when I watched the games back then it never really looked like he was enjoying himself as head coach. The stories I've heard from players/personnel who were with the team at the time were that several players were upset with the treatment he gave certain veterans like Art Monk, Earnest Byner, Mark Rypien (basically singling them out and making them earn their spots-like Marty did with DG); Petitbon and Casserly clashed a lot. Petitbon had been hoping he'd get the Bears job that year because he didn't want to deal with Casserly anymore, though at the time he was going for the Bears job he didn't know he'd be the Redskins head coach soon. Casserly didn't have quite the same problems with Petitbon but was upset that Petitbon was calling Casserly out at Redskins Park for not giving Petitbon a good enough team to work with. And finally, Petitbon was furious he was fired for a former Cowboy. Thought that was a slap in the face and for many years (maybe even still today) wanted nothing to do with the Redskins. That's really sad. The hiring of Norvelle will always be associated w/a dark time in our beloved team's history to me, much more so than Petitbon's dismal 93 season. Yep and even though Norvellous brought us our last Division Title , I still hate having anything to do with ex-cowboys!!!! freddyg12 11-11-2010, 06:38 PM Yep and even though Norvellous brought us our last Division Title , I still hate having anything to do with ex-cowboys!!!! exactly! SouperMeister 11-12-2010, 09:27 AM Richie Petibon?? Is he the guy who went 4-12 after a whole lot of hype??Not exactly. He's the guy who inherited an aging team that was ripe for a 4-12 downfall. Before his one season at the helm, Richie was the best D-coordinator we ever had, and that includes Gregg Williams and Marvin Lewis. |
