Redskins Insider - James Davis could make this week's roster (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/running-backs/james-davis-could-make-this-we.html?wprss=redskinsinsider)
I'm looking forward to seeing what James Davis can do. Knowing what MS and company can get out of RB's, I'm hopeful JD gets a shot. I'm not a Clemson fan but the few times I watched Davis, it looked like he had similar skills to CJ Spiller. Anyone familiar w/ James Davis?

I created a thread when he was signed to the PS, cause I was hopeful that he might be the next gem rb that Shanny found. I watched him at Clemson & he was great.
During his jr. year he was projected as a 2nd round pick, but stayed for his sr. year & his stock plummeted, Cleveland took him in 7th round. The scouting reports said he was a terrible blocker & he's not that good at getting the tough yards in short yardage situations. I think he might've been slower in the combine than his times at Clemson (which seems always the case w/college 40 times).
Always seemed like a good kid, explosive runner. He was unhappy in Cleveland & they let him go, but he fits the zone scheme well.

God knows, we need our RB's to block. When CP gets back, at least that will improve.

pretty sure davis was the "thunder" and spiller was the "lightning". not similar players from my recollection.

Agree. Love to see the guy, but if he can't block we can't use him.
One of the reasons our offense has suffered (and McNabb has had trouble) is that Portis isn't there to seal up the holes and mistakes our O-line is making.. We NEED a RB who can block. And a TE who can block as well.
Well, let's face it, we need everyone to help block - Rabach, Licht, Hicks and Brown have been having trouble.

Ditto on the NEEED our RBs to have the ability to block. We've realllly missed portis there

I definitely see Davis as a guy to keep an eye on. I hope he makes the active roster.

Agree 100% w/the blocking. We also need rb's that can RUN. Torain is avg. & has durability issues, CP is slower these days. I'd like to see more of Williams but it does appear they don't trust him to run the ball much.
If Davis got 5-10 carries/20-40ish a game that would be a relatively major contribution.

He turned down an offer from Carolina to be on their 53 man roster, and stay on our practice squad. That shows that he believes he can be great in this offense; or that he just doesn't want to be on the second/third worst team in the NFL
