Anyone Mad We let Randle El go?hooskins 11-01-2010, 12:20 PM Can we close this thread? Please. sportscurmudgeon 11-03-2010, 11:45 AM WR really isn't the problem right now. WR is not THE problem now - - but it is still A problem. Questions for all the Devin Thomas acolytes: Where is he lighting up NFL defenses now that the Skins cut him loose? How much is he seeing the field on Sundays? Get back to me when he has a game with 4 catches... The WR corps is NOT the area of the team that needs help the most. but it better be upgraded for 2011 - - if there is a season in 2011 - - or the team will not do nearly as well as fans hope. MTK 11-03-2010, 11:48 AM Sure WR is an issue, and one that needs some attention in the offseason, but better protection up front remains the top priority. Alvin Walton 11-03-2010, 12:03 PM I would agree that some of these threads appear to be started by 7th graders but if you hate them so much why do you keep bumping them to the top? freddyg12 11-03-2010, 12:28 PM Ease up, this isn't a bad thread at all. I think a more well rounded thread would've been to look at the players we cut & ask the same question. I think some of the guys that were cut - Betts, Rock & ARE could be contributing on this team. After the blocked punt v. St. Louis I was missing Rock. When Portis went out I was missing Betts. As for ARE, don't get caught up on his contract, can't blame him for taking the money. He did about as much as could be expected of him here. We overpaid for a #3 slot reciever. As a slot reciever in the middle of the field he made plays. Not spectacular, but he knew how to get open in the short to mid routes. I agree w/the original poster, ARE is better than some of the guys on this team. I understand the cuts that were made back in the spring though, the new staff was trying to upgrade, change culture, etc. The only thing that surprised me about ARE being cut was that he seemed like a good team player that would help a new staff. SmootSmack 11-03-2010, 12:40 PM He shouldn't have started a thread about our former top returner the day that Brandon Banks has the best day for a Redskins returner in who knows how long. And he shouldn't have said he's watching Randle El with Pitt and he looks great! He has 11 catches for 129 yards. Is that really all that much better than Galloway's 9 for 141? We have this need to always put former players up on a pedestal, and I just don't get it. Rock blocks a punt and suddenly we need him back? MTK 11-03-2010, 12:47 PM I would agree that some of these threads appear to be started by 7th graders but if you hate them so much why do you keep bumping them to the top? hate to point out the obvious, but you bumped it too :cheeky-sm MTK 11-03-2010, 12:53 PM ARE is one of those guys that probably 75% of folks here were ready to run out of here on a rail for most of his time here. I'm just not a fan of these hindsight threads where all of a sudden a former Skin is some sort of hero. Like SS said, Rock blocks a punt and suddenly people want him back? And what makes it worse is when ARE's performance in Pittsburgh this year really hasn't been anything special. He's average 3 yards per punt return. 3 freaking yards. Total garbage. As a receiver he has 11 catches for 129 yards, 0 TDs. Again, what am I missing? takethecake 11-03-2010, 01:43 PM We have this need to always put former players up on a pedestal, and I just don't get it. Rock blocks a punt and suddenly we need him back? That and the need to call for the head coach/quarterback/reed doughty's head each week whenever we don't blow out the other team... freddyg12 11-03-2010, 01:43 PM He shouldn't have started a thread about our former top returner the day that Brandon Banks has the best day for a Redskins returner in who knows how long. We have this need to always put former players up on a pedestal, and I just don't get it. Rock blocks a punt and suddenly we need him back? I wasn't referring to Rock's blocked punt, though that adds to his spec teams cred. I was talking about K. Williams missing the block in our St. Louis game that led to a blocked punt. Rock had the punter protection job & was a valuable special teams player, just not much of a RB. I'm all for getting the young guys in, but I would still say that Rock is a better special teams player than the guys that took his place. As for ARE, he plays on a team w/some decent wr's. They don't need to rack up big #s, just come in and make some catches. I don't think it's fair to look solely at the stats. He could be contributing here IMO & I was never that critical of him in his time as a Skin. I think people get caught up in expectations & expected him to play big because of his big contract & name recognition, but I think he played up to his ability & was decent out of the slot. |
