SmootSmack 10-31-2010, 09:11 PM Good to know that you are satisfied with the team we have on the field right now. I'm going to hold out a little longer.
I won't speak for Rypper but I'm not satisfied, this loss probably hurt the most because it was a conference opponent we had beat but let slip away (unlike the Rams where we got rocked). But I'm not going to go jump off a bridge either. If Zorn should have taught us anything, it's to "stay medium"
Big C 10-31-2010, 09:21 PM season definitely isnt over. what is troubling though is that we continue to lose to teams deemed "worse" than us, and beat teams that are "better" than us, or fight them to the wire (colts). this has been going on for as long as i can remember, especially though in recent seasons. good news in this regard, our schedule for the rest of the season is extremely "tough". lol.
on the positive side as well, the eagles are only a half game ahead of us and we play them head to head in 2 weeks. they also have indianapolis next week. we will be fresh, and teams coming off the bye vs teams who are not fresh of a bye have a large advantage. detroit just came off a bye coincidentally and won which should make it a little less surprising to some. the giants will only be 1 game ahead of if they lose to the seahawks next week, 2 games ahead if they win. they will be fresh off the bye so expect a win, but either way, we still have them 2 times on the schedule. all is not lost, but we need to sort a lot of stuff out for sure.
firstdown 10-31-2010, 09:24 PM We are actually lucky to be 4/4 at this point. The only thing keeping us in games is the turn overs. Its a building process. SS I thought the Lions beat us up pretty good today.
NYCSkin 10-31-2010, 09:50 PM Halfway to 8-8 which IMO would be a successful season for this team IMO. A break or two in the second half them maybe the Skins get to 9-7 and have a shot at the playoffs...

What the hell does that have to with luck? It's not like we're taking naps and the ball is falling in our laps. Why can't our own fans give us any credit ever? Are we all that miserable? Why isn't anyone screaming that if not for "lucky" turnovers the Lions would have lost?

Well, we're pretty miserable. Our play on the field has for the most part been pretty paltry, and at times flat out awful to watch (primarily the offense).
IMO we are much improved as far as head coach, accountability, and discipline. The defense has had some pretty darn solid personnel for a while now. This year they are just being used in a manner that allows more yards but creates more opportunities via turnovers. The offense is the same old story. Half decent running game, lame WR corps, and a piss poor O-line that any QB would struggle behind.

Well, and you probably knew this, but meant are we so miserable as fans that we're not capable of giving our guys any credit ever. There is tons of room for improvement but we're an average, not awful team, and when we succeed it's not always about luck.

We are lucky that the Lions dropped that easy pick 6 by their CB, we're lucky that M. Stafford was rusty from the long injury layoff, we're lucky the Lions, overall have an average offense and we are REALLY lucky to have B. Banks on our team. If it weren't for luck, they would've blown us out today.

Colts are lucky Carlos Rogers has hands of stone. Texans are lucky Gano missed a field goal, Lions are lucky Portis was out and Torain got hurt and the Redskins overall have an average offensive line and the Patriots are REALLY lucky Brady fell to them in the 6th round...

Well, a few things go the Colts way and they blow us out in that game.
We're lucky Dallas is stupid and doesn't take a knee right before halftime. We're lucky Mason Crosby doinked one off the upright. We're lucky Cutler is stupid enough to keep forcing the ball to the WR D-Hall is covering.... You can go all day with this stuff.
Truth be told, it's just football. As Skins fans we just end up talking about the luck factor so often because we're always in close, grind it out, cardiac style games.
You can say we could easily be 6-2. You can say we could easily be 2-6. What we are is right in the middle. But I think this team is closer to a 2-6 version than a 6-2.
Oh and btw to call our offensive line average is one of the nicest compliments I've heard in weeks.
