"He coached a team to almost perfection [with Elway] so he wanted that again, he wanted that every time we went out there. It's just not realistic."

I think it's realisitic to push players towards perfection. If we want another superbowl in DC we gotta continue working towards perfection. He may never find another Elway but he needs to push players to play at their best level.

You know what I hope is going on is this:

*this might be somewhat far fetched*

Maybe McNabb isn't exactly doing what he should. When Kyle Shanahan was getting uber-upset on the sidelines, i thought he was saying what play is that. It's been suggested by some "insiders" that McNabb isn't really doing what they want and making some bad decisions. While McNabb is an ultra-professional, maybe he is just doing his own thing a little bit and playing too loose.

Shanahan, instead of coming out and saying McNabb isn't running the plays we are calling and is making terrible decisions, comes up with a complete bull reason as to why he wasn't in there - the two-minute drill. This is so McNabb doesn't get discredited by the media, Shanahan takes all the heat for the decision, and it gives McNabb a golden opportunity to sharpen up with a BYE week without any media scrutiny.

This in turn makes it look like the exact opposite of what's going on: Shanahan is actually really protecting his QB and not throwing him under the bus and telling him get it right or you are out.

Otherwise, this is a cluster-****!

I guess Brett Farve is the only QB that can get away with doing his thing.

I watched the game Sunday but did not post any messages on the game day thread Sunday. I have to say what stood out most about pur loss to the Lions was how the D-Line of Detroit played in our backfield from the 1st series to the end. McNabb was running for his life nearly everytime he dropped back to pass. However we did manage to take the lead with 4mins remaining when McNabb made a poor decision to throw into double coverage which resulted into a INT. That was a mistake that a vet and pro bowl QB cannot make. Hey McNabb is only human, look Farve threw a pick against the Jets a couple weeks ago on the last drive to go ahead for the win. I think this loss will do us more good than harm with the bye week to think about this. I say McNabb will step up his game in the 2nd half of the season.

It often seems to work that way..........

What you want is push for excellence. I can (unfortunately personally) attest that a push for perfection is (very) counter-productive.

Comments on Reid: Donovan was 'phenomenal' - 11-11-2010 (http://www.prosportsdaily.com/comments/reid-donovan-was-phenomenal-431560.html)
Reid was asked if McNabb had problems with the two-minute offense or staying in shape during his 11-year Eagles career. (Redskins coach Mike Shanahan, by the way, told reporters in a conference call that he would have handled the whole benching situation differently with the media. Um, you think?)

"He was phenomenal when he was here," Reid said. "I don't know about all that.""

The one thing Mcnabb has to stop doing

"throwing interceptions in the
4th quarter"
