He's missed from 40+, he's got a strong leg & he's young. I think he's missed one under 40 plus a block this year. He's hit a lot of 40+ this year too, some of them pretty clutch like yesterday, also the 49 yarder v. Dallas to put us up 6.

Um, he has also missed clutch kicks like yesterday. He also missed kicks against hou (two missed) and the colts. Both of those game we lost by 3 points.

Gano has been ok. He's missed some long ones. Big deal. There isn't anyone else out there that's better. Everytime the guy misses someone wants a new kicker.

The Houston one is tough to pin on him, it was 52 yards & he nailed it the first time. Hard to ask a guy to do that twice. He missed yesterday sunday from 47 & 51, those are not high probability kicks.

When kickers miss under 40 kicks w/some consistency then you've got a problem.

also, the other houston miss was blocked, not his fault. Don't remember how long the colts kick was.

Lets not also forget that many of our games have rested on him. We have had what, 3 OT's already this season? Thats a lot to put on any kicker. I say if we would get into the end zone more often and stop bringing games down to the wire, he would put up the extra points. Gano is playing just as well as 95% as the rest of the team.

Gano has been good for the positions he has been put in. He is in the top 5 (at least he was before Sunday) for attempts of 40+ yards. When you have to kick from that far, there are a lot of factors that the kicker has no control over. The hold has to be perfect, the wind can move the ball easily over that much distance, and the spot has a huge impact.

I am not saying he is great, but in reality, there is no kicker available that is any better right now. Maybe during the offseason they bring in some competition for him, but right now, he is the best we can have.

Thank you Scott! He's had 2 dome games, the rest were outdoors. Dome kickers that get at least 8 games indoors have a serious advantage statistically.

Actually, I'm saying he could be great. If Kubiak doesn't call that time out in Houston & that 52 yarder stands, we would be 6-4 & might not even have had this thread (no offense to those that agree w/the original poster).

I am not going to say he COULD be great though. This is why, Adam V. kicked for New England for how many years? Look at some of the kicks he has made in terrible weather to win games. Now, can Gano be really good, I think he could. He needs to mature. Spend the offseason practicing the long kicks from both hash marks, in bad weather and all that. No you can't expect your kicker to make every 40+ yard FG, but a great kicker isn't going to regularly miss 30-36 yarders just because of wind, he needs to learn how to adjust better for the situation then he will be great.

This isn't even a discussion. Gano has consistently made the field goals he's expected to make. Without the name of a specific kicker who is better than Gano and currently unemployed, the call for Gano's release is absurd and stupid. Enough of this reactionary nonsense.

This is my thing with Gano, he seems like he can be a great kicker, just needs some work a bit. I'd hate to see him being the next Akers and we just let him go.
