SouperMeister 10-31-2010, 11:46 PM You Gano haters are IDIOTS. There is a reason that we're leading the league in kickoff coverage, and Gano's excellent kickoffs are a HUGE part of that. Gano has missed one "gimme" all season, and that was the 37 yarder last week. Other than that, he is the best looking kicker we've seen here in years. I said it last week, and I'll say it again - Gano will be a successful kicker in this league for a long time, and I hope that Shanahan has the patience to allow it to happen here.

I like the passion on a kicker! If Gano lined up in his stance and kicked Rabach with all of his force, ending his career, he would be the best kicker we ever had!
With his 2/2 yesterday he's up to 27th in the league at 75%
Monkeydad 11-01-2010, 11:51 AM Gano made an awesome TD-saving tackle too. It was a hard, solid tackle for a kicker.
freddyg12 11-05-2010, 02:57 PM Sign Gano to a 4 or 5 year deal!
sportscurmudgeon 11-05-2010, 07:11 PM I second this, he sucks. We need to draft the best bad ass college kicker in the 5or 6th round this draft, and make him a redskin staple. Given our history for kickers (counting EVERY kicker all the way back after Lohmiller) the odds do not look especially good for us. It definietly is an area that needs addressing though......
History with kickers here is interesting because they have had good ones here and let them go elsewhere as youngsters.
You have heard of David Akers, no?
SmootSmack 11-05-2010, 07:59 PM Why does everyone always turn to David Akers as if it reflects some pattern for the Redskins and field goal kickers? He played one game for the Redskins
You've heard of Scott Blanton, Brett Conway, Jose Cortez, Nick Novak, and Shaun Suisham, no?

Why use him as an example? Simple...
David Akers is a good kicker - maybe even a very good kicker - and has been one for about 10 years now. He was the "property" of the Redskins and they did not recognize what they had so they started down the path of Blanton, Conway ... Suisham, Gano. Had the coaches recognized what they had in hand, things would have been different in the Skins' kicking game.
SmootSmack 11-05-2010, 08:24 PM Hindsight is 20/20. Falcons didn't recognize his talents, Panthers didn't recognize his talents

Falcons didn't recognize his talents, Panthers didn't recognize his talentsYes, we weren't the only ones to miss on Akers, but Gano has shown me enough to believe that he has similar talent. He gives us a clear field position advantage on kickoffs, and he has made some very big kicks to keep us in games. Hell, some of these Gano haters probably blame him for Fred Davis sleeping on the edge when the Texans blocked a short attempt that might've iced that game.
