We are So Close to being Great!!

We have been in several games this year. All of us that remember Gibbs I know that this is just a start. The way that we have played has been frustrating but watch it will take form and we will be off and running. Think if our offense averaged 21 points, would we be 9-2? Here is a quote from the Steelers site via the post game interview with Cower

Question "Even without Plaxico Burress you weren’t scared to take shots deep down the field early in the game?"

Cower - "No, like I said, we had some shots down there. We had the one pass interference. We got the ball down there a couple of time but we came away with just field goals. We had a few sacks again we got beat on some rushes. I give credit to them. They are not the number-two defense in the National Football League because of anything more than the fact that their record is what it is for them to be where they are and the amount of points that they have given up. It is a great tribute. That football team is not that far away. You look at their skilled positions and you look at their backs. They have had some injuries on the offensive line and with the amount of close games that they have lost, that team is a lot closer then people may realize."

He sees it to. I thought they played well yesterday but the Steelers are 10-1 for a reason. We did also have a mental mistake that know one seems to have caught. On 1st down on the 4 Bettis runs in for a touchdown. We had 10 men on the field. I was there and I counted 5 times to make sure I was correct. This is the same drive that we were called for 12 men on the field.

So eliminat the mental errors and score a few more points and we will be awsome. Have faith guys cause when we start there will be that bright shiny thing at the end of the rainbow. THE LOMBARDI TROPHY

cowher is a class guy though, he never rubs it in anyone's face, but i agree with him that our D would be #1 still if it wasn't on the field soo long... and if the offense hadn't given up over 40 points early on...

Yeah, he was a class act in the Philly game and with us this past weekend. He could've run up the score but chose not to. Gotta give the man credit.

I've always really liked Cowher. I remember when the Steelers were thinking about letting him go a few years ago I had my fingers crossed hoping we could get him.

He is right though, the line between winning and losing in this league is so fine. Look at the Chiefs, they went 13-3 a year ago with the same formula, a high powered offense and not much of a defense. This year it's caught up with them and the games they won last year they're losing this year.

We've had our share of injuries and bad breaks. That's not to downplay the controllable factors like poor execution, play calling, etc., but injuries and shit luck do play a factor.

Cowher is a class act. I agree with everything he said.

I agree with you guys on Cowher, he truly is a coach with class and I respect him quite a bit. I also respect Andy Reid even though I cannot stand the Philadelphia Eagles!

I also agree with Cowher, I think he does see that our team is so close to turning the tide. Heck, in several of our losses, it came down to a bad call here and there by the refs or a pass just out of reach....I don't think we have all the components there yet but at the sametime, I don't think we have to do alot of major changes to our team. I tweak here and there and we could possibly be playing for homefield advantage next year.

I agree that Cowher is a class act, But not trying to score after the game was decided was in their interest too. Trying to score could cause an injury to one of his players and hurt his team down the road.

I also saw a postgame Bettis interview. I've never really thought of him as a classy type guy, but he really impressed me by the way he said things in the interview. He basically said the same stuff that Cowher said. Losing yesterday wasn't all that bad (all things considered) because even though we lost, we got respect from everyone except the commentators. I think we have seen some progress over the last two weeks. The WRs are dropping the ball like mad, but we have hung tight with two very good teams. If we can get some stability and maybe make some changes in a couple positions over the offseason, I think that we can improve dramatically next year. I hate thinking about next year so early...
