The Texans should be the best

I'm sorry I know how random this thread is, so stop reading if you don't care about the Texans. I was looking at the depth chart of the teams, and the Texans really stood out to me. I feel as if they have drafted amazing recently, they have a great offense with EVERY starter on the right side of 30, they have an elite pass rusher in Mario Williams, they have an inside presence in in Amobi Okoye. Both Williams and Okoye have respectable complements in Smith and Cody. And, they have two pro-bowl linebackers in Cushing and Ryans. Every level of their team so far is great...with the one glaring whole of the secondary, which is atrocious.

In the off-season, they had zero free agent-contracts given out to any position AND they let their only good cover corner walk in Robinson. In my mind they would be the most complete team in the NFL right now if they had at least a respectable secondary. Re-signing Robinson and getting a respectable safety in someone such as Hamlin, and I think that they would have the best roster in the NFL.

Pre-season, Green Bay (and arguably the jets, but I'm not drinking the Sanchez cool-aid yet) would have been the only teams to even be able to compete to the all around talent of the Texans. I find no reason as to why the Texans would leave such a large whole on an otherwise complete team, and I am absolutely dumbfounded as to why they did this.

Edit: Add the Ravens and Pats (pre- Warren injury) to the teams that could compete with the completeness of the Texans pre-season roster.
P.s. I know the title is misleading, but I do not mean the best team in the NFL, just the most complete roster...which in a sense is the best team in my mind.
Second Edit: I just realized how confusing my message is. I mean to say they WOULD be the best if they improved their secondary.

I wouldn't necessarily say they should be the best. They're certainly putting together strong talent, but they've been hovering around average for quite a while now. It's long overdue for them to take that next step. Tough division to do it in though.

Skinster, small suggestion, break your posts into paragraphs. Would be much easier to read

On the whole there is a hole in your theory. I cannot put my finger on it though.

Texans Defense is Garbage, if you talk down about our D than what's that say about Houston's? They give up 28 PPG, and are 31st in total D.

Yea we are 32nd but we only give up 20PPG. Also we have had some great Defensive games ... 7, 12, 13 given up to 3 Really good offenses.

If your as good as he was on roids, he's gotta at least be decent off them.

It's about so much more than the talent on your roster -- things like chemistry, coaching, atmosphere, mindset etc. really matter. Gary Kubiak isn't one of the better coaches in the league (IMO) and the rest are also tough to measure.

That's why teams come out of nowhere because all the intangibles line up and you can have all the players but if the intangibles aren't there, you're going to suffer (see Dallas).

I see what you are saying, and I completely agree. I know my post is very long so I don't expect all of it to be read, but I did cover this when I said that my title is confusing and I mean to say that they would have the most complete team talent wise, not necessarily be the "top dogs."

I just see so much unharnessed potential on the Texans. I think it is incredible that all of their offensive starters on their great offense are all 29 and under, and they have their 5 best defensive players (Amobi Okoye, Demeco Ryans, Mario Williams, Brian Cushing, Kareem Jackson----yes I know that last one is tbd) all 26 and under.

In my mind they could have been a force to be reckoned with for years to come if they fixed their secondary last offseason. In my mind the unharnessed potential comes mainly from the terrible secondary play. Of course the intangibles of chemistry and coaching are significant factors as well, but I just think that those issues are good enough that they be elite for many years if they just fixed their secondary.

Decent as who, Merriman? lol. RockyMac? It doesn't matter, he's not a Pro Bowler without those roids.
