Gmanc711 11-28-2004, 05:00 PM Whoever watch the last two games, dont need me to tell them that Clinton Portis has had some bad stats. However, thats to be expected that a running back will have a couple bad games. However, Clinton Portis was not even on the football feild today. Seriously, if someone made me bet the percentage of plays he was on the feild, I would say under 50%, and I'll have to look at a tape to be sure. Now Clinton Portis is the best football player we have on our team.... SO WHY iSNT HE ON THE FEILD? Is he hurt and we just dont know about it, or is somthing going on? I've gone as far to think to myself that he might not even be here next year, I dotn get it. I'd just like to hear some comments, because I'm shocked at how were using him, and the lack of using him.
RedskinRat 11-28-2004, 05:02 PM He's too quick for a soggy, slippery field. I know that sounds crazy but he spins his wheels and just gets tackled down in the back field. You need a big, heavy diesel type runner.
skinsguy 11-28-2004, 05:10 PM Not to mention that once you're down 13-0, you have to get away from the running game some and start passing...like RR said, Portis' running style isn't built for this type of field. That is why I keep harping about getting a big back like Bettis to compliment Portis. Betts did a decent job today but we need someone bigger I think.
d151b 11-28-2004, 05:25 PM gmanc has an excellent point. we get stopped on two running plays, then call 56 consecutive passing plays after that. what are the offensive coaches smoking? it's 13 points, that's it. we abandoned the run in the first friggin quarter... what happened to Gibbs' run first approach...? especially with a 50 million dollar stud like portis!!! why would you call that many passing plays anyways? the receivers can't even catch the ball....
That Guy 11-28-2004, 05:55 PM i saw portis struggling for traction today, i don't know... we were in the game till the last 2 minutes, but i'll be damned if I knew how to win it... offenses are just fickle, either they work or they don't... I was sad to see our run game take 20 steps back today though, that was the one thing we actually had working...
offiss 11-28-2004, 05:59 PM It really doesn't matter who's back running the ball right now, our line is not opening holes. Why, is the big question? Is it because team's are stacking the box knowing we can't throw? Are our pass pattern's to easy to cover? I feel Gibb's has to be be able to do a better job with draw's and screen's to keep the defensive pass rush honest, that alone would be the biggest help in giving Ramsey time to throw, those quick draw's would also give us better play action holding the LB's for an extra second, team's attack our offense with reckless abandon they are not worried about surprises, I also think our WR corp's is overated Gardner is a waste he shouldn't even be on the field, no matter how good he may look here, or there, he will kill you in the end, and I am tired of hearing how Portis is to fast for the counter trey, nonesense! The blocking is not there where are the holes that he's missing? I haven't seen one, case and point about our offensive line 1st and goal at the 1 and we went backwards running the ball, that is smash mouth football no trick's just man against man and we couldn't move the ball 1 yard we had to throw on 4th down to score, I just think we need a big strong center Raymer is getting pushed around in there, I find it hard to believe that a 350lb lineman in Dockery can't push his guy back 1 yard, and it's not injuries because it's been this way all year long, I think our line is highly overated, no way I keep Samuels next year he is nothing remotly special, I think Wilson had a decent game should only get better, but that line may be at the core of our problem's and that's why team's don't respect our run they know man to man we can't block opposing D-lines, any blitzes we see just go after the QB they don't have to respect the run on the blitz because they know the guy's upfront will stop it, the more I watch our offense the more I am convinced our line's inability to control the line of scrimmage is the biggest problem.
Gmanc711 11-28-2004, 06:02 PM Offis is right, the holes arent there. The thing I wanted to point out the most in this thread is that Portis wasent even playing the majority of our offensive snaps. That is a huge concern to me. Its not the stats that I'm worried about, Barry Sanders wouldnt have gained 50 yards today. Its the fact that hes not even on the feild that is making me question what exactly is goin gon.
That Guy 11-28-2004, 06:02 PM raymer really got pushed around at will today...
illdefined 11-28-2004, 08:37 PM not his choice. from the WP:
"We felt our best way to get it downfield (was to throw)," Gibbs said. "I am sure he will be upset about it. I expect him to be. He is very competitive."
Portis said, "I'm not in Denver anymore, I'm in Washington, I have to find a way to be a key player in this system, the same way I was there."
skinsguy 11-28-2004, 09:47 PM Being down by 13 points against the Steelers with the number one defense in the league is the reason why we decided to throw more as opposed to running. Did you guys notice the average yards rushing today? It couldn't have been more than 2 yards per carry.
