why sign Parker and LJ in the first place and not give them a true opportunity to thrive.

So you don't think the coaches could watch them in practice and then in preseason. Both players knew what was on the line.

Shanny said he wanted competition at every position and that is what has happened. Players who were drafted high and felt some sense of entitlement learned early that their positions were not safe if they did not put the work in. The message was clear and consistent. Allen and Shanny have a tough job. They are trying to change the culture at Redskin park. There will be casualties. For every Devin Thomas that doesn't have the work ethic, he will be shown the door. That presents great opportunities for over-achievers like Anthony Armstrong or Brandon Banks.

I'll chime in and think of the decision that i think the previous front offense made mistakes with:

I think Ladell Betts should have been kept here and allowed a chance to start. I thought the signing of Jason Taylor was dumb. I think signing Haynesworth to such a HUGE deal was a mistake. Signing Archuleta was boneheaded. Brunell should have stayed the starter here for the remainder of 2006, maybe 2007 if he won the job. They should have traded CP when there was still a market for him...ok im outta breath now.

Guess who is the leading reciever after week 5... Brandon Lloyd! Lloyd was released before he ever got a true shot here. A player who was said to not be good enough in Washington to get on the field or get any balls thrown his way. Now the number 1 guy in Denver and the NFL (stats wise).

I think Shanahan dropped the ball on Thomas, but only time will tell. My question for discussion is do you think we are on the right path?

I think the skins have a problem. Davis should see more balls come his way. Galloway should not be here at all. I happy we are winning but I do question the motives of staff. What do you think?Back to the original post in this thread, Brandon Lloyd was a knucklehead when we got him. San Fran was glad to get rid of him, yet we willingly gave up a 3rd and a 4th for him. Making matters worse, we tore up the final year of his contract, and handed him a $10M signing bonus before he ever played a down as a Redskin. For the record, Lloyd started 12 games here in 2006, and only caught 23 passes (zero TDs). He was given a true shot here, certainly moreso than Devin Thomas, and he blew it.

Beat me to it, Loyd was given all the opportunity he could ask for. He was an absolute debacle here, and likely contributed to the chemistry problems that the team had in that dreadful 06 season.

So B. Loyd has put up #s through 5 games. that doesn't mean he's worth the trouble. Maybe he has grown up & is a good teamate, or maybe he'll become a problem by demanding more $. There are plenty of good, even great, wr's that teams have gotten rid of because they aren't worth the trouble - TO, Marshall, Moss, etc. According to JLC, Loyd was a pain here, and without any production!

Were Shanny and Allen supposed to extend the hours of a day, or of a game so they could get more of a shot?

I think the fact that they had an entire off season with the team, and the fact they each of them was given at least one game as a starter in the preseason means they did get a true opportunity.

Not everyone can work out. Theyre supposed to take their chances when they had them and all signs point to them not doing that. Not to mention that they were both up there in age.

This is really a lame thread and an even worse example (Brandon Lloyd)

That right Smooty my boy! lol

j/k I wonder sometimes things that happen in Ashburn is because of pride and ego's more than honest evaluation.

Let's not kid ourselves, Lloyd is the only reason you started this thread. Dont think you would have started this thread in June
