trotter or barrow???

There have been some rumors that the skins are interested in signing Barrow and now that Butler was signed by the rams we have a little more money to play with. Would it be worth it to sign Barrow?? He is going to want a good amount of money, maybe close to what Trotter is getting. Why would we sign Barrow for a similar amount of money when Trotter is just as good if not better, younger, and already under contract. If we release Trotter and sign Barrow it seems pointless. You might be thinking that Trotter had a bad season last year however look at how bad our D-line was, which makes linebackers look terrible, and he was just coming back from a torn acl. I say we give him at least another year to see what he does and if his contract is an issue in 2005 try to restructure it. any thoughts?

I think Jeremiah Trotter is the single most overpaid player on the Redskins team in terms of what he produces on the field. As bad a year as Chris Samuels had last year, he was still a better value than Jeremiah Trotter.

Having said that, I would not release Trotter and suffer the dead money that he would bring to the team just to sign Michael Barrow. Barrow will be 34 next month and that is getting long in the tooth for an ILB.

I would certainly consider cutting Trotter and replacing him with someone of Barrow's ability who was younger but not someone who will be 34 before training camp starts.

I def. agree. He's a former pro bowl player, so I think he should be given another your to prove he's worth his big contract. Plus there would be a huge dead money hit if we released after only two years.

Trotter could still be a force in Williams' attacking scheme, and he should be fully recovered from his knee injury. I'd keep Trotter around based on that and his sizeable cap hit that we would have to take if he's let go.

barrow is reported as saying he wants somewhere around 2 mil a year and from what I know that's no where near the price we r paying for trotter. if we r going to be playing a lot of 3-4, which seems more and more a distinct possibility, he'd be a pretty good pick up to play the other middle lb spot.

i really think trotter is going to go nuts this season under williams.unlike last year he has an idea exactly what he wants his defense to do.if i were to sign another big name with talent,i'd sign john lynch.

I'd like to see if Trotter can finally fulfill his potential this year. If not we can cut him next offseason and it won't hurt too bad.

I agree. I think he should get one more year to prove he's worth it. That Injury was tough, I personally think he will have a good year. I really think our coaching is going to be a big factor in the play of our LBS this year

Does anyone remember what Trotter did when he was under a good, experienced coach? He dominated the trenches in Philly. I'd hang on to him not simply because he is young and we'd take a cap hit if we cut him, but because he is good. The MLB position reflects the Dline and Trotter can't do much if he has two guys blocking him because the dline isn't keeping guys off the linebackers.

Trotter is an animal but a crappy dline=a crappy LB corps. Improve the Dline and you will see a commensurate improvement from Trotter.

Let's see, so far we've added a promising, yet disappointing DT in Cornelius Griffin, we're banking on a guy who's coming back from ACL and MCL tears, we picked up a 32 yo average end who had two sacks last season, and we've got Renaldo Wynn at left end. Excuse me, but was anyone else watching how pathetic our Dline was last year? Where is our major Dline upgrade?

I hope we've got something in the works to improve our dline because right now I don't see a very good pass rush and I see Tiki Barber running right up the middle for an 80 yard TD. Does anyone remember how in the Giants at 'Skins game we had Tiki stuffed in the middle and he came out of the melee to gain another ten yards? Tiki ain't Ricky Williams or Jamal Lewis (especially in terms of size) and he ran all over us. What is Gibbs thinking?

Gibbs is thinking that Gregg Williams knows what he's doing ... hopefully his system will be more than the sum of its parts. Yes I'm surprised we haven't done more on the DL but there must be some reason why we passed on these all these FAs over the past few weeks.
