skinsfanthru&thru 10-09-2010, 07:28 PM Not busting on you but in theory we should give away our top draft picks for a lot of lower draft picks and still pick up some UFA's? Especially since this team has done better in later rounds.
All I was saying was that orher than Cooley, mcintosh, and smoot, we haven't seen any 2-3rd round picks be serviceable pieces to the teams success since 2000. Our first rounders other than Ramsey, gardner, and campbell have been good to great at times. I hope our new regime can keep up the luck with scouting the first round talent and finding UFDA or late round studs like Alexander and Peirce but will also be a better set of eyes for talent in the middle rounds if they keep said picks.
apiatt 10-09-2010, 07:57 PM This is very interesting. I guess Shanny just thought that DT would never 'get it' and decided if we were going to have a return specialist he would rather have Banks. If DT couldn't get snaps on the current receiving corps, then he was never going to. Amazing how a guy that could be so physically gifted could not make any strides on the field anywhere else. Oh well, maybe this was always apart of Shanny's master plan.
skinsfaninok 10-09-2010, 08:23 PM T.O was a third-rounder. Not exactly late.
U know what I mean, 1ST Rd WRs are 50-50
skinsfaninok 10-09-2010, 08:34 PM Devin Thomas doesn't know why Mike Shanahan cut him | ProFootballTalk.com (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/10/09/devin-thomas-doesnt-know-why-mike-shanahan-cut-him/)
NYCskinfan82 10-09-2010, 08:44 PM Wow just turned on my computer this suprised me but I'll roll with what the FO thinks I really thinks this will come back to haunt them.
HTTR.
12thMan 10-09-2010, 09:03 PM Yeah it just makes no sense to me. I don't care how we keep spinning the spin coming out of Redskins Park, ultimately Shanny is here to coach and put this roster in the best position to win games, not enforce personal vendattas. Is --excuse me, was-- Devin Thomas the first guy in the NFL to not give a 100% during practice? What was he doing that warranted being released so abrubtly, reading Playboy and eating a ham sandwich on the sidelines? I dunno, man.
As I said before, I believe with all my heart Mike Shanahan is a competent NFL head coach, I'm just not sure his methods are always in the best interest of this team. If anyone thinks Devin Thomas is done in the NFL you're crazy.
JoeRedskin 10-09-2010, 09:12 PM He's just a Darnarien McCants redux. Yeah, he'll hang around on some team depth chart and flash some stuff but never be consistent. In two years, he's out of the leauge. Three max.
There! I have just assured him a HOF career.
apiatt 10-09-2010, 09:17 PM Remember now it is just year one for Shanahan. It wasn't his regime that deemed Thomas a 2nd rounder or a competent NFL WR. It is just very curious that a team that has struggled so much wideout would cut perhaps there best size/speed combo at the position. I was as psyched as anyone reading about the scouting reports about Thomas after the 08' draft, lets remember that Shanny took some less touted receivers in Rod Smith and Ed Mcaffrey to help build his offense in Denver. Then later was able to pick out Brandon Marshall. This guy has experience and knows what he's doing. If he doesn't think Thomas is the answer for the Skins I am inclined to believe him until he proves otherwise.

I don't think anyone is saying DT is done. He has some value. I really feel DT is not a Mike Shanahan type of player, that is all. Nothing personal against DT. Shanhan likes over achievers, DT is a classic underachiever. All the physical skills in the world and not enough drive to be a top WR. DT is content being on an NFL roster and collecting an NFL paycheck.
I really feel Shanahan does not want to waste time with players that are not his type of player. Shanahan is trying to clear out the players that do not meet his standards. It is not some kind conspiracy or desire to get rid of all Ceratto players.
Look at the benching and eventual release of Derrick Dockery. His days as a Redskin are numbered. Dockery is the opposite of the type of O-lineman Shanhan likes to have. Dockery is slow on his feet and not the brightest.
