I think they are trying to scrub every remnant of VC's decision making from the organization
Redskins release Devin Thomasrbanerjee23 10-09-2010, 04:14 PM I think they are trying to scrub every remnant of VC's decision making from the organization Defensewins 10-09-2010, 04:17 PM He should land a job in no time, don't worry about it. He can be a male model. Kidding. Maybe this will be the just the thing that will humble him and make him work harder to get become a better route runner. I hope so, I think he is a good kid. SouperMeister 10-09-2010, 04:25 PM The '08 draft is definitely in the discussion, but I still think we've seen worse. 2003 - only netted Dockery as a legit NFL starter. 2002 - only noteworthy player is Cartwright. Well, Robert Royal too I guess. 1996 - total swing and a miss on OL Andre Johnson. He didn't even make it out of training camp. Stephen Davis is the only player that came out of this one. At least with 2008 we still have Moore, Horton, Kelly, and Davis. So I think there's still some time for this one to be salvaged. We only had 3 picks in 2003, and Dockery was a pretty good find in the 3rd, although Taylor Jacobs was as big a bust as Thomas (especially with Anquan Boldin still on the board). Good point about 2002 - that was another 10 player draft that yielded very little long term (Rock and Betts). It's depressing looking back at so many botched drafts, but we can take comfort that the FO hit home runs with Orakpo and Trent Williams as our top picks the last two years. Both will be perenniel Pro Bowlers if they remain healthy. We need Allen to maintain that trend in future drafts. SouperMeister 10-09-2010, 04:32 PM That doesn't make me feel any better. The reality is the two headed Snyderatto was a terrible Front Office. Period. To this day Cerratto still claims they (Kelly and Thomas) were a bargain, 1st round talent piked in the 2nd round. WHAT A ****ING JOKE! We are still paying the price for their poor leadership and inability to stock our team with quality players. It is not the Coaching. Someone mentioned earlier about other teams picking up our thrown away gems. Which ones? Patrick Ramsey? HA! Ladell Betts? Oh wait....Jason Campbell. You could build a all star team with that line up. I am surprised by some of the shock and disbelief by some on this thread about Thomas getting cut. Where have you been? Thomas and Kelley were reaches just because we thought our biggest need at the time was tall fast WR's. All the while our offensive line was really the biggest need.I've been preaching this for years on this board - build a team from the inside out if you want long term success. Great line play leads to winning football, even with average talent on the perimeter. Lousy line play leads to losing football, even with elite talent elsewhere. There are a whole lot less good athletic 6' 5" to 6' 6" and 300+ pound people in the world than 5' 9" to 6' 4" athletic people. Statistically they are harder to find. Draft big athletic people over small unless it is someone incredibly special. Thomas and Kelly did not qualify in that 'someone incredibly' special in college. Longtimefan 10-09-2010, 04:57 PM Some players are just better fits in other systems. For whatever reason DT couldn't win over Shanahan. Doesn't mean he can't play, he just can't play here. I had high hopes for Thomas but I'm just not sure he's ever going to be elite. His hands aren't anything special and I never got the vibe he was 110% into football. He seems more interested in everything that comes along with the fame and fortune of the game. Maybe he can be a solid #2 or #3 somewhere, who knows. I was about to say that. His being released could serve as motivation for him if it is his ambition to become a better football player. While he was unable to find his nitche here, that dosen't necessarily preclude him from becoming a better performer somewhere else. His future in the NFL [should he have one] wil be interesting to keep an eye on. Thomas never impressed me as being a guy real serious about the game. There always seemed to be other things that were more important to him. skinsfaninok 10-09-2010, 05:09 PM I know AJ Green looks great in college but let's be honest, WRs are very shaky when it's comes to the draft. There have been so many Bust in the first round at WR.. Green could be the next Randy Moss or the next Malcolm Kelly.. SFREDSKIN 10-09-2010, 05:36 PM Ok, here's my crackpipe theory: This is a gamble by Allen to see if NE picks up Thomas, he becomes an all star with Brady. NE doesn't trade for VJ, who the skins then go after, he joins the team in a week, like ACE said. Back to reality!! skinsfan69 10-09-2010, 05:52 PM WTF???? I can't believe that Roydell Williams and Galloway are better than Thomas. I simply can not believe that in a million years. Green could be the next Randy Moss or the next Malcolm Kelly..Only QBs are tougher to predict success at the top of the draft. For that reason, I hope that we use BOTH of our top picks to select linemen, and bolster our WR situation through a trade or free agency for a proven commodity. |
