Vincent Jackson anyone?
Redskins release Devin Thomasrbanerjee23 10-09-2010, 11:12 PM Vincent Jackson anyone? skins89moss 10-09-2010, 11:13 PM Well DT is gone and at least he could stay healthy. How much you wanna bet the Skins are gonna wave buhbye to Kelly in the off season? Kinda like when Colt got cut huh? He was a fan favorite but could not play. Went to Raiders and got cut there to. Maybe Shanny knows more about players than us the fans do. skins89moss 10-09-2010, 11:15 PM More professional, huh? Smells like a my-way-or-the-highway move by Shanny I guess. Well when you been coaching as long as Shanny has It should be his way. Its not like Devon is Jerry Rice. He has not played more than a minute in the NFL. Hey he got a nice check for Thirty something catches in 3 years. diehard 10-09-2010, 11:21 PM What was the strategy here? In order to build trade value, other teams at least want to see him on the field. Using him on teams only killed his value. skins89moss 10-09-2010, 11:22 PM Chris Horton is absolutely useless in coverage and Fred Davis was an unnecessary luxury with Cooley playing at a high level. Also consider that we selected Davis with DeSean Jackson still on the board!!! The only pick that I feel good about from that entire draft is Kareem Moore. Considering that Vinny drafted 10 players in 2008 and only has one starter to show for it, yes, I would call it our worst draft EVER! If not the worst it was sure like way to waste 3 2nd picks. I like Davis he is a stud needs moree time on the field. Kelly is always hurt and DT look like Tarzan play like Jane. I would say thus far we blew that draft. skins89moss 10-09-2010, 11:32 PM OK. Now let's look at receivers taken in the top 10 in the last ten drafts: 2009: Darius Heyward Bey (Bust), Michael Crabtree (jury still out) 2008: None 2007: Calvin Johnson (Stud), Ted Ginn (Bust) 2006: None 2005: Braylon Edwards (Decent), Troy Williamson (Bust), Mike Williams (Bust) 2004: Larry Fitzgerald (Stud), Roy Williams (Decent), Reggie Williams (Mild Bust) 2003: Charles Rogers (Bust), Andre Johnson (Stud) 2002: None 2001: David Terrell (Bust), Koren Robinson (Bust) 2000: Peter Warrick (Bust), Plaxico Burress (Stud), Travis Taylor (Bust) I see A LOT more red in that list than green, which has been my point that drafting WRs high is extremely risky business. I would prefer the Skins to invest high draft choices on the lines and on LBs to fit the 3-4. Address WR with a proven commodity via trade or free agency. I agree WR can be found from 3rd to late rounds. EARTHQUAKE2689 10-09-2010, 11:47 PM Look at my post above on WRs drafted the last 10 years. Every one of those guys were studs in college too. Green and Jones could just as easily flame out at the next level. QB and WR may be the most difficult positions to predict success in the NFL. Did I ever disagree with anything you said? I've been saying from day 1 that this is the deepest WR draft since 96 skins89moss 10-09-2010, 11:53 PM I wanted to see DT get a chance to play on the offense this season but I guess in the eyes of the coaching staff he was not better than the WR we had in front of him. GL DT your at a cross road in your career so whats it going to be? 2nd rd draft bust or free agent gem. Time will tell. GusFrerotte 10-10-2010, 12:01 AM OK. We could get a good WR in the mid rounds if our dumbass scouts or FO would do there job and come off like they were on top of things come draft day. The draft is very deep so we will have plenty to choose from. Thing is the guys we drafted are all going to be PS lifers. Sorry guys, I don't see Banks or Austin as a short or long term answer at WR for us. IF they were, they would not have been put off the active roster so soon. IF DT could be cut so easily after 4 games, that tells you something. SouperMeister 10-10-2010, 12:40 AM Did I ever disagree with anything you said? I've been saying from day 1 that this is the deepest WR draft since 96No you didn't. I was just pointing out that we should be wary of drafting wide receivers early in the draft. The ones that do make it usually take 2-3 years to show consistency, and many never reach their potential. The Skins could be a case study for the poor return from drafting WRs in the 1st two rounds: Desmond Howard, Michael Westbrook, Rod Gardner, Taylor Jacobs, and now Thomas and Kelly. Speaking of the draft, with the likelihood that future rookie contracts will be severely restricted by the next CBA, there could be a big run of draft-eligible underclassmen declaring for the upcoming draft. If that happens, it could be an incredibly deep draft across multiple positions. |
