Perhaps at least some of the performance gains in private schools is more attributed to the fact that all the kids are their by parental choice. Meaning parents on the whole, in the private school system, take the education of the children more seriously than that of those in the public system. And I do know when parents care and get involved with the kids' education then the kids do better. I base this on the fact that when talking to numerous parents about private school we had a number of them tell us that it isn't worth it because it really isn't all that different than a decent public school. Now we have good public schools in my area but the private schools still out-perform even those good schools in all the basic metrics. That and the school does not have to put up with the kids who do nothing but cause problems a disturb the class. My daughter went to private High School and the teachers in whole are not better they just don't have the distractions and class sizes are smaller. Public schools could do two things and improve greatly over night. Screw the teachers union and fire all teachers that perform poorly year after year. Kick the trouble causing kids out of school because they are not going to learn and do nothing but disturb the class. Now those kids that you kick out of school Tell them they can either get a job or go to jail.
