Devin Thomas had the entire off-season to show the coaching staff that he was worthy of playing WR on a regular basis. During all the OTAs and mini-camps and training camp, he could not make that case.

When players try to determine things like who will play and what position they will play and how assiduously they will follow the system, you get situations like:
Clinton Portis
Albert Haynesworth
LaVar Arrington
Oh good. The team needs lots more of those kinds of situations...

When fans try to determine who should start and who should play what position and what plays should be called on offense or defense, the team is headed for being "on the clock" as of the second week of January.

It's always amusing when fans think they know who should be starting based on what very limited knowledge we have of these players vs the coaches who live, eat, and breath football with these guys. And it's not like Devin Thomas had a great track record prior to Shanahan either.

Roydell Williams and Armstrong are really killing it out there. Aren't they? It's not that hard to design a few easy plays for DT. It doesn't take a coach inside the building to know that. We all know DT can run well so throw him a few wr screens. Figure out what he can do well and get him going that way. Plus Davis had his guy beat on the interference play. How come we didn't see Davis the rest of the day? These are simple things. Not gonna bitch about the offense too much but if I can figure some of this crap out then how come they can't?

I understood the argument when it was Zorn, who had 0 experience as an OC. But both Mike and Kyle have proven they can make use of TE's and WR's, it just seems like a hollow argument to me. Here is a question for any DT apologists:
Why would KS (or MS) keep DT off the field, if they felt DT was better than Roydell?

I can't imagine one scenario, where DT would have outplayed Roydell in practice, and KS said, "hey dad, lets just keep him off the field, cuz all the fans want to see him and fans don't know squat."

Now maybe, bringing in Simpson, they are hoping to get a new KR out there so DT can play WR, but only time will tell.

You should be coaching, really. It's obviously so simple.

I think its pretty well established on offense that we mos def need more help at WR, RB, and O-line. I honestly think the talent there is lacking and really interchangable whether its Thomas vs Galloway vs Williams at WR or Torrain vs Portis, etc. Their all pretty average to below average players at thier point in their careers. Unfortuanatly, those things we really cannot change at this point with regards to the roster.

The big problem I have with the Offense is the redzone. We can change that and get better. We need Wonder Boy Kyle to do a better job playcalling and coaching up a better stragdy when we get there. That said, its no excuse not to be using our TEs more when we get down there...or the middle of the field. Tooooooo many field goals down there

Our running game looked a lot better,although it was against the Rams. Maybe with Portis,Williams,ATV and Simpson,it will give Shanahan more tools to work with against opponents.

The running game was one of the positives from that game.
If Portis doesn't lay down at the end of that nice run, he probably would've kept getting carries and had a nice day on the ground.
Imho Portis getting pulled after that carry was a clear sign from Shanahan that no matter what the reason laying down at the end of a run is unacceptable.
EDIT:He wasn't completely pulled he had 2 more carries
And hopefully that will give Portis a kick in the pants to start finishing your runs or else.

Ryan Torrain was very productive ,although i'm not a fan of his upright running style, it looks like he could come in and be effective.

We need to find a way to get Brandon Banks back on the practice squad or 53 man roster...(But I have a feeling he will be scooped up through waivers...this was a very bad move imo) We desperately need his speed on the field. Do we really need Roydell Williams that bad or newly signed RB Chad Simpson? I simply just don't understand this move,but the coaches know better than me.We can use Banks on screens,returns or whatever. He may have fixed his fumbling for all we know,but his homerun ability and natural speed an RAC as a receiver can not be overlooked for moving the ball downfield for 1st downs. This team is not very fast and cutting the fastest guy on the team with lots of promise or keeping him on the practice squad is not very smart imo...


I don't understand the love for Banks? His speed is not that unique especially since our WR corps is filled with burners most of whom are at least as fast as Banks: Moss, Galloway, Armstrong, Devin Thomas.

I would much rather see Devin11 on screens and hitches then Banks.
Roydell Williams is probably on the team because after Moss and Galloway he's the most proven WR on the roster.

My take:the main fixable problem on the defense is in the secondary

I saw our CB's playing off the Rams WR's 10 yards off the ball or more...And after the quick slants and passes by Bradford,there was no adjustment.

If you would have told me that Greg Blache coached this last game against the Rams,I would have believed you...
Blache was heavy on man coverage in situations where we were in zone on Sunday.
I think Blache's man coverage scheme would have helped us on sunday.

I don't want to speculate on the 'why' aspect but i agree Haynesworth needs to start.
You can't tell me the defense isn't better when he's out there drawing a double team from the RDEs spot.

Why are we not using Fred Davis and Chris Cooley as weapons? (They were against the Texans and that was a dose of what could be?)

We don't know how much Kyle is trying to get them involved for all we know he could be trying and hard and the defenses are taking it away or McNabb isn't going in that direction.

But, the RZ playcalling has been too passive, imo.
And the 3rd conversions have been horrid i think we're a league worst 6-32.
But, that number is misleading because we've had a lot of 3rd and longs and you have to think there's no where to go but up from 6-32.

More then the WRs or the OL i think Kyle and McNabb are the problem and therefore i beleive the problems on 3rd down and the RZ are fixable.
In general terms of the passing game imo Kyle needs to find a comfort level with McNabb and needs to learn how to call games to make McNabb more effecient.
Because McNabb has shown a penchant for focusing on the big play rather then moving the chains.
Sometimes the situation just calls for getting a first down to extend the drive rather then a homerun shot that ends up as ending the drive.
But, just as much as Kyle should get more quick game standard move the chains WCO concepts like he did to start the Texans game with Sellers; McNabb has to be able to turn down the low percentage deep shot when a higher percentage short throw will get us a 1st down.

If you believe in curses, look into the native american connection w/the redskins name. Someone told me that in the 90s a native american group did a curse ceremony or whatever it is called at fedex. There are also a no. of stories of curses that various indians have put on the team.

At times like these, curses seem believable. Look at the way the team has lost over the years w/different coaches, etc.The only curse was Snyder buying the team and forever running it as if we were one or two players away from contending. The reason we can't run the ball or stop the run is years of neglect on both lines. It will take a lot more than drafting Orakpo and Trent Williams, although they are great cornerstones to build around.
